dd1 complaining of pain when she urinates, and says her bottom hurts when she sits. I'm guessing it's cystitis or something, but at this time on a Friday night I'm at a loss as what to do! She doesn't seem too bad at the moment, i can't get through to NHS Direct, and I really can't face to trip to casualty at 4am!! Any ideas/ Anyone???!!!

Lots of cranberry juice to drink - flushes it out and something in there helps. Plus Calpol of course!

goingfor3 · 16/03/2007 18:54

Take to her the out of hours GP service and give her plenty of water to drink to try to flush it out.

DarrellRivers · 16/03/2007 18:55

phone your GPs surgery, there will be a tel no for the out of hours gp service.
phone them, she needs to be seen, and if you can catch a urine specimen in a sterile pot, (boil something for 3 mins)

DarrellRivers · 16/03/2007 18:55

how old is she?

NorksDrift · 16/03/2007 18:55

Is her vulva inflamed? It might be the skin is sore rather than an actual bladder infection. If so I'd try something like Sudocrem.

she's 2.9 - both front and back bottoms looks absolutely normal. Is the concensus then that i should be worried and proactive, or watchful and waitful?

Have her nappies or her wee smelt strongly ?

DarrellRivers · 16/03/2007 19:05

I'd get it checked out, they can be quite miserable with it, if it is a UTI.

goingfor3 · 16/03/2007 19:06

Do something about it now. When DD1 was 3 she had a string of urine infections and she really suffered. She also was totally toilet trained but now has problems.

powder28 · 16/03/2007 19:14

UTI's are terrible and you must ring nhs direct or take her to casualty now. It can feel like your weeing needles!!!

cane · 16/03/2007 21:36

thanks for all your help - she's been singing and dancing and generally buggering around back too normal so I'm not as worried as I was - I'm going to keep an eye on her overnight and the weekend and if it gets worse I'll take her to the drop in hospital, but for the moment she seems ok - thank you!

While she is in a good mood it might be worth getting a sample of her wee just in case becasue kids can go downhill as quick as they recover.
