Beige poo - any ideas?

For the last 2 days my one year old has pooed slightly more than normal and its really beige. He is perfectly well in himself, eating and sleeping etc. Is this normal/a problem?

I have had a stomach bug/food poisoning but he didn't eat the thing I think caused it and his Dad has had a much milder version a day later (but he didn't eat the thing I thought caused so maybe we've all had a bug)

my dd usually gets this after she has been constipated, or when shes tried something new to eat and seems fine. i dont think it would be a problem, but best to see what other mumnetters think

thanks, he hasn't been constipated and I don't think he has had anything new for a few days, I'll have a think. I had it once myself after another stomach bug and my dr said if it didn't clear up I would have to have some tests to see if it was a kidney or gall stone (can't remember which but it may have also been to do with the bile duct; God I have no memory nowadays)

my dd went through this jsut after xmas and it turned out to be the extra milk she was having.

is your ds eating anything more than usual???

jane313 · 08/07/2004 20:53

hmm I don't think so. Maybe a bit more cows milk but not a huge amount more. I should keep a record.

My 1 year old ds has these pretty regularly. It is always connected with teething pains with him. Not necessarily a visible tooth or a cutting one, more likely one moving inside his gums. Might that be it?

jane313 · 08/07/2004 22:39

maybe. He usually is quite whingey with the pain but not with the last two, but he has his front eight and the next ones are usually big ones. I daren't feel inside his mouth, last time I did it he clamped shut on me, I screamed and he then cried as if mortally offended

My DD had this when I first started mixing cow's milk with formula - it was a gradual change over 3 weeks as I added more. I thought it wasn't agreeing with her and stopped the cow's milk for a while. With hindsight I think I was being too cautious - yes, she probably was reacting to a change in diet, but was it doing any harm? It doesn't seem to be a problem now but I give a little less milk overall.

by the way, it could have been a mild bug, or just unexplained 'toddler diarrhoea'. it happened for at least 2-3 weeks without any other symptoms, so maybe you just need to give it while longer.
