No periods for months - not pregnant

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had experience of their periods just stopping for no apparent reason. I've now missed 4, almost 5 months. I've done two pregnancy tests which were both negative.

My doctor says not to worry until 6-8 months have passed, but Iam worried. Could it be the menopause or something more sinister?

Worrying about it so much is probably not helping.....

Have you had your prolactin levels checked? If they are high they can stop periods. Ask for a blood test, if the levels are high you can take medication to reduce them.

Has the doctor not sent you for any blood tests?.

You should have blood tests done to also see if a condition called polycystic ovaries is responsible for your lack of periods. Problems with the thyroid gland are another possible cause. Physical problems cause a lack of periods.

Thanks, I saw the nurse last week for a smear test (I got that done incase there was anything wrong there) She has booked me in for a blood test at the end of the week to check hormone levels.

I've been getting period pains like it's about to come but it never has. I will try not to worry just hope it's nothing serious.

Prolactin, thyroid, low body weight?

My periods have gone awol too, pretty sure mine is menopause. How old are you? Could it be menopause? Have you any other symptoms?

Onetoomanycats · 23/05/2017 09:03

I'm 34, healthy weight which hasn't changed, no other symptoms

I starting missing periods for months at a time at your age. For me it was perimenopause - no period for a year now. I'm 48.

What hormone levels are going to be tested onetoomanycats?

Such a test being done on the wrong day will give you a meaningless result. What you ideally need is a day 2 and day 21 test; as your periods are non existent these can be done according to calendar days.

I'm not sure @AttilaTheMeerkat she just said they would do a blood test to test them, I can ask about the day 2 and day 21 test.....

It's just so unusual for me, they are usually so regular that makes it worrying
