went to gp to day (not usual one) and asked for help with 'mental health isssssssshues'

(this post is in bazarre comedy style as i am A)deflecting attention from the fact im a sad f*ck, and B) a leeeeeetle bit pissed.)

so she gave me a questionairre thing to fill out (edinburgh test thing i think) and i made another appt for a weeks time when she will prescribe me ad's.(she doesnt like to prescribve ad's 'straight away' you see.) this is the 3rd, or maybe the 4th time i have gone to gps to ask for help with pnd. (or whatever the hell is wrong with me.) thank F my usual gp doidnt have time to see me, eh? hes very nice n all, but seriously, if a mum comes to you for help with pnd, saying shes just tired and its all normal is not really v helpful.

dont know why on earth i am posting about it, but hey ho! thought id share my good news!

good for you, hope you get the help you need.

tinkerbellhadpiles · 15/03/2007 22:01

Good for you. Do you know you are entitled to up to six counselling sessions free on the NHS and you can demand them before going on the happy pills?

BTW being depressed and being a sad f**k are totally different. If you are depressed it IS an illness, same as if you have TB. You get treatment, you will eventually start feeling tickedy boo.

The edinburgh test is not great though....I particularly enjoyed the 'do you feel more tired now' ummmm do you know a mum who doesn't feel tired? Really?

traceyn · 15/03/2007 22:02

My partner has just been given one of those silly forms, as though the doctor has not got the time to sit down and listen to whats wrong, it does make me mad.

dither · 15/03/2007 22:03

ta flier. me too!
my mums said on phone just now to quote the 'national standards for primary care' at them next time they get all pansy on me. says it will put a rocket up their arse. bless her.

really? six sessions? yes, i am due to see 'practice xcounsellor'.. hmmmm, we'll see how that goes. in my experience counselling reveals that its all your mothers fault. which i cant help extending to its natural conclusion, now that i am a mother n all

but ta, for doubting that im a sad f*ck. nice of you [smil;e]

i feel sorry for gps really, they are so out of their depth when it comes to... um, well, what exactly are they expert at?? how can they be expert at all of it??

Yep. Six sessions - if your practice counsellor is rubbish, ask to be referred, you can also ask to see a community psychiatric nurse and they know what they are talking about so it can be better in some ways.

Is it post natal depression or just general depression. If it's the former, you want to go to veritee.proboards7.com/

dither · 15/03/2007 22:14

hmm, thank you tinker. i will bear that in mind. truly.

and i wish i knew if it was post natal, regular, or even depression at all... maybe i need the psychiatric person to have alook and see what they can tell...)

I'm going on a cbt course in a couple of months time - supposed to help with pnd and stress, it might be worth asking if there is anything in your area. I'm lucky, I've got a fantastic health visitor.

dither · 17/03/2007 18:55

thanks flier. will ask.
and am jealous of your fab HV - mines horrible. and incompetent. and thinks she knows everything. and pushy too. cow.
