Why am I getting this pain ?

OK I know I should not have googled my symptoms and I will be trying to get a apt with the GP .

For the last few days , about 5 I have woken either in the night or in the morning with severe pain in my shoulder blades/back and upper abdo ( under ribs ) . Once I am up this subsides over the course of about half an hour , still get niggling pain in shoulder blades and in breasts , against breastbone , but this goes too .

When I wake , I have no other symptoms other than the pain , no nausea , breathlessness , sweating , nothing , just very bad pain .

During the day I have no symptoms .

I am fat , 40's , smoker and drinker . Google suggests pancost tumour or pancreatic cancer , actually couldn't find anything innocent to match these symptoms .

Poo perfectly normal , no heartburn or reflux .

Please suggest some non life threatening conditions that might explain these symptoms .

I am going to work now but will be back later .

Gallstones/gall bladder

purplecoathanger · 19/05/2017 07:52

See your GP.

Right hand side mostly?

Gallbladder.

Ellapaella · 19/05/2017 14:11

Gall bladder or even acid reflux most likely scenario, particularly if it's eased by sitting up.

Purple I will of course be seeing my GP just as soon as I get a apt , missed the five minute time slot to get one yesterday so will try again on Monday .

Only had one glass of wine last night and pain not so bad this morning , so will give it a miss for the rest of the weekend and see how that goes .

Gallbladder or, possibly, trapped wind. Blush
I have recently had 2 night episodes where I am woken with pain like you describe- though mine radiates all the way across my chest, back and up into my shoulder and lower jaw. Google tells me I am about to drop dead with a massive cardiac arrest but when I get up and drink some fizzy water, fast, I do a massive burp and symptoms disappear.

I was checked for gallbladder issues a year or so back (it was h.pylori in the end) and the GP told me the three Fs are indicators, "fair, forty, fat" Hmm

Try not to worry. Flowers

I second trapped wind! Try laying on your back, arms above your head and stretch for about 5 mins. If it's wind - you'll soon know!

Redhead17 · 20/05/2017 08:40

Ahhh Doctor Google always suggests imminent death.

Probably acid reflux

You might have sleep apnoea and when you have intermittent bouts of not breathing your intercostal muscles may be going into spasm. Have you got a partner? Have they mentioned excessive snoring or a sudden stop in breathing? Often people who are larger, smoke and drink suffer most.

Terrifiedandtearful · 20/05/2017 18:34

I do have a tendency to go straight to bed once I have eaten , I do tend to be quite burpy in a morning and initially it hurts when I do it and then I am fine .

Not sure about the sleep apnoea , DH has it, so I sleep mostly alone ( DS2 normally ends up lying limpet fashion next to me at some point) My neck isn't fat iyswim and I tend to lie foetal position on my right side .
