Dry skin inbetween dd's fingers? could it be eczema?

My dd1 (5) has got some dry leathery skin between her fingers... its red and raised but she says it dosen't hurt...
We have started to regularly use antibacterial handwash as a family and she uses it at school too.
Could it be eczema or a reaction to the soap? I am sensetive to certain products with lanolin in them....
Any thoughts?? TIA

i get this and my dd has recently got it - i have put it down to the washing up liquid and liquid soap. I do get eczema on my hands but that is different.

now I think of it she had dry patches on her elbows but by the following morning they had vanished....

Could it be possible that its something as small as those little spaces between the fingers not being dried properly after washing?

SpookyMadMummy · 15/03/2007 20:51

it is possible at school... I supervise her rigidly at home. Dd1 has ASD....
The skin is very dry though....

Could it be a fungal infection - like athletes foot?

MrsBadger · 15/03/2007 20:54

If it's at all itchy it could be scabies - sorry . If it is it needs cream from the GP but will clear up fast.

I can't use anti-bacterial handwash - it really dries my hands out - I have to use handcream afterwards.

Try some aveeno on it

BarbieLovesKen · 15/03/2007 20:58

MrsBadger - I was thinking that too.

Hope its just the drying thing, even I sometimes may not dry as thoroughly as I should and your little girl is only 5..

Could you start using a hand cream after each hand wash with her? it might combat the dry skin and usually little girls love to use things their mommy uses?

Im not really much help.. sorry!

BarbieLovesKen · 15/03/2007 20:59

Is there little "bumps" on the dry skin (could be hard to notice as may appear to be under the skin).. because (sorry) this could be scabies

SpookyMadMummy · 15/03/2007 21:06

nope not itching her.... the skin is so dry its cracking so obv. there are crack lines

Oh! God, I really dont know then my friend little boy had very bad eczema and it sounds a like the way his little hands would be.. could you try and thoroughly clean her hands with an unperfumed wipe/ towellette or something for a few days because I think water can really effect it. Sounds like it would be worth getting doctor to check it out - if even for your own peace of mind...

SpookyMadMummy · 15/03/2007 21:12

I think a trip to docs would probably be worthwhile... thank you all
