Conjunctivitis - different question from normal (I think)

DS (13 months) has just developed conjunctivitis for first time. I have read other threads about swabbing with cooled boiled water and cotton wool etc, and changing towels each day. However, DS is in a very touchy feely "phase" and puts everything remotely soft to his face and snuggles into it. This means cushions, blankets, cuddly toys etc. Do I need to remove all of these from his reach so he doesn't accidentally get eye gunk on something and then reinfect himself when he goes back for another cuddle the next day? Also do I need to change bed sheets every day?

I might add that he is currently standing at the window wrapping the curtains around himself pretending to hide - should I be checking for eye gunk on curtains? Sorry, as you can tell, his is PFB and I have no clue...

Mine have had conjunctivitis and I only remember checking that they don't share their towels with anyone. I only think you can catch it if you are also rubbing your eyes on the curtains! Probably a good idea to move cushions out of the way. Does he have a favourite cloth he can snuggle into?

if he has conjunctivits he will need anti-b eye drops from the GP or HV. sorry...

I agree with Urban, they clear it up really quickly

Sorry to add a fly into the ointment so to speak but drops or cream are both a neccessity but a nightmare to administer!! My DD has just got over conjunctivitous (3rd time she's had it)and all I did was make sure she had own flannel, towel etc and changed bedding. She still had her favourite bear and I didn't go washing all my curtains even thought she's partial to a spot of hiding herself and she has not re-infected herself on any of the three occassions. Hope this saves your washing machine some!!

Thanks v much all. He has a very fave comfort blanket he sleeps with which I will wash when he is up in the morning as it will definitely be covered. Will remove the "muppet-skin" cushions from sofa as they are his faves to rub his face on.

We have appt with doc in morning, they had none available this afternoon so will get some drops then. Kamryn I think we will have the same prob as you with the drops, he is not even letting me bath his eye with the wet cotton wool, I had to do it while had he his bedtime milk as his love of milk was stronger than his hatred of me trying to clean his eye! Did you change bedding every day?

No, didn't change bedding everyday as I wasn't sure either. Changed after about two days when eyes were getting better anyway and then again after it had cleared up. I guess it depends how much gunk is about!!
As for the drops, sounds horrible but we had to wrap our DD in a towel or duvet (arms in) and just drop them in, if hands were free she'd just push us away and rub any drops we did get near straight off again. Good Luck!
