10 mins? 20? ie, not allowing her to get into REM mode, but still enough to be refreshing?
TIAx

Why shouldn't a 4yo nap for longer?

carla · 10/07/2004 17:34

As I understand it prettycandles, if you let them get into a really deep sleep they're quite groggy when you wake them up (much like us being woken in the middle of the night). Also, if my 4 year old has too long she's hyper later and not in bed till 11.00pm. Whereas (apparently!) if you get the balance right they wake up refreshed but still able to go to bed at the proper time. That's the theory, anyway!

Prettycandles - a 4 yr old can nap for longer if that suits everybody.

Powernapping is when they just have a very brief sleep, in order to stimulate and reinvigorate them. We used to do this with ds1 at this age. It sounds completely barmy, but works very well! It didn't impact on bedtimes, but did improve tired behaviour.

Sorry crossed posts carla - you explained it very well.

I see, thanks. Don't think ds will be a power-napper - at 3.9y he still likes his hour and a half in the afternoon!
