Just curious to know how it is for others. I think day 2 is heaviest for me.

Rainbow, I wear three nighttime pads at once! One towards the front, one towards the back and one in the middle, so three of them in one place in the middle. I still bleed through them in an hour on my heaviest days.

TMI alert but I sort of hose myself off with the shower three/four times a day, then I use loo roll to remove the clots from the plug hole.

EBearhug · 14/05/2017 00:10

No idea what counts as heavy

This is why first went to the doctor and was prescribed tranexamic acid. I thought they probably were, but I didn't know.

There are things online to help you work it out, but if you're getting through a super max tampon and pad every hour or two with big clots, that's heavy. A big clot is about the size of 50p.

This quiz might help - uk/Tools/Pages/Heavy-periods-self-assessment.aspx

Barchester, have you tried Tena pants instead of 3 pads?

youarenotkiddingme · 14/05/2017 06:43

I've done that before!
The Aldi incontinence pads are pretty absorbant to and rescued from from many a night of mess and useful for the "get out of bed and stand up whilst on" meoments.

MrsJamin · 14/05/2017 06:49

I was prescribed some tranexamic acid yesterday, do you get any side effects ebearhug?

BarchesterFlowers · 14/05/2017 07:44

No I haven't. I might do that but I must say that having four showers a day actually makes me feel slightly better about it.

I once stood up after sitting down for three hours in a meeting and bled everywhere, my shoes were full and it was all over the floor. I was acting as an accountant to a charity and the meeting was with seven male trustees. Mortifying.

Tranexamic acid makes me very nauseous mrs.

Groovee · 14/05/2017 07:47

I am heavy for the first 7 days. I've been on cerazette since October and bled daily. I'm on the list to have an ablation done. Hopefully in July.

MrsJamin · 14/05/2017 09:29

Just taken my first one, I'll see how I feel. I have had silent reflux in the past few months so hoping it doesn't bring it back... Now wishing I'd asked the GP whether the transemic acid would make it worse. It's never easy is it, being a woman! Last time I flooded it was on holiday and thankfully v near a loo but an hour earlier we were on a walk miles from a loo.

EBearhug · 14/05/2017 09:48

I didn't have any problems with tranexamic acid. I haven't taken it the last couple of months, as my periods seem to be naturally being more manageable at the moment. (Can't help feeling I will pay for this in a month or two.)

Groovee · 14/05/2017 15:14

I had the Trax acid and I have reflux but was fine that way. I found it took til evening to calm my bleeding by which point I had struggled through the day x

Violetcharlotte · 14/05/2017 15:23

Day 2 for me too.

Qtipsrsweet · 14/05/2017 15:46

Endometrial Ablation is what I'm scheduled to have done next month. Periods are horrendous due to polyps, so going under a quick general to have them removed and the ablation. Apparently it gives you a whole new lease of life. It's not permanent but can significantly change the flow of periods for the better.
I've had my kids, so gynecologist suggested this. I can't wait.

I went for blood tests yesterday. A few of them for various things, the nurse told me they were screening for ovarian cancer amongst other things charming. I am not daft, I know that my symptoms could mean something nasty. Dr hadn't said anything like that at all.

I got a call at lunchtime today, my Dr wants to see me first thing on Thursday so something must be not right. I am not worrying though, statistically my risk of cancer is very low (and there were four different tests).

Not handled very well by the nurse though imo. If I was a worrier I would be worrying.

Inbetweenus · 16/05/2017 22:24

I'm sure your iron level must be really low. Maybe he'll offer you infusions and/or treatment to lighten your periods. Maybe check for fibroids...damn periods!

BarchesterFlowers · 18/05/2017 09:55

So much for my level headed statistician's approach. It was my CA125, three times what it should be - I am now on a fast track to rule out cancer. Flipping heck.

theclick · 18/05/2017 10:03

It was for me before I got pregnant yep

Groovee · 18/05/2017 10:23

Thinking of you @BarchesterFlowers x

AttilaTheMeerkat · 18/05/2017 10:29

Barchester

Endometriosis can also be a cause of raised CA125 levels. Both this and fibroids can cause heavy bleeding to arise.

BarchesterFlowers · 18/05/2017 10:35

Thank you both, much appreciated 🙂. Raised platelets too, I was sure I was just going to be anaemic. I know I have got a big fibroid. Well, it hasn't been looked at for about 18 months. CA125 was 100.

I am not googling, too scared to!

I am just about to go cycling in the lakes til tomorrow with a book tent and hopefully a pub.

Hammies1 · 19/11/2020 00:03

Barchesterflowers where you ok ? X

Bubblemonkey · 19/11/2020 10:59
