as it was a meningitis booster thats supposed to be had between 13 & 24 months (DS is 27 months)

she said its up to you if he has it or not as hes 3 months over the reccomended age and the risk is reduced now (how do the meningitis bugs know my sons birthday???)

so i felt really put on the spot - when i first got in the didnt even know why i was there and were phoning round places trying to find out what he was supposed to be having!

so i felt torn between not having it done -as they were saying he wasnt at as much risk now, and the fact he had noticed something was going on and had become distressed,

but i opted to have it done - as if i refused and then he ended up getting menigitis id forever blame myself IYKWIM
really stressful twist to the already stressful injection senario

glad to be home now!

ps- DS was a star, cried a bit, held his leg - told the doctor he didnt like her (neither did i! lol) and repeated 'no pointy' a few times

then off to the park - and he was fine

It's up to you whether you let your children have ANY injections.

GPs just like to make you think it's sort of compulsory because they lose funding if a high enough % don't take them up.

seeme to be NHS policy at the moment. DS2 fell and broke a bone in his foot last year and at the fracture clinic, the nurse asked me whether I wanted him to have a plaster on it.

I don't know - I'm not a nurse or a doctor - that's why I brought him to the fracture clinic.....

Exactly the same happened with me..!!! Went for it and was told dd was over the recommended age and that bshe wasn't as much at risk and that it was up to me...they chased up the health authority who got back to me a week later (didn't end up with the jab that day due to a cold) and said it was up to me..!! Weren't routinly offering it but if I wanted it then they were more than willing to give it..!!!

I felt the same as you as the nurse was also calling around to find out what dd should be having and in fact this was the 3rd attempt to get it as initially she was trying to give it when she was part way through mmr single programme..!! . Not allowed..!

She was asking me what she was needing, like I knew esp as the programme has changed recently. Scary really, she didn't have a clue what dd needed....I would have thought all medical staff giving vaccinations should be 100% on what is needed esp when they are in charge of the needle.....
