Trochanderic burstitis (hip pain)

Has anyone had this? What helped with the pain at night? I'm in agony and can't get comfy. Anti inflammatories aren't really touching it. Did anyone have an injection to help and it worked?
Thanks

I don't know if it's same cause, but I have fibromyalgia and my hips can be extremely painful and stop me sleeping (or doing much else at times! Angry Sad ) hence my being awake at stupid o'clock now.
I have strong codeine tablets and a time release diclofenic as well but doesn't stop it, only reduces a little and it's still very painful. Am going to try hemp oil and see if that helps any

MaitlandGirl · 10/05/2017 02:52

I've been awake for the past 2 nights with the same thing. I'm so tired and fed up with the pain that I've just sat on the loo and cried :( didn't help that I had to ask for assistance to get on/off the loo.

I really don't know what to do, or to suggest - ibouprofen and diclofenac don't work and I can't take anything stronger due to allergies.

The only thing I've found in the past that helps is a metric ton of pillows on the bed to prop up various bits and wedge myself into place and a thick mattress topper to try and take some of the pressure off. A pillow between your knees can sometimes take some of the strain off as well.

I'd like to try a hot bath, but can't easily get in and don't know if it's worth the pain - does it work for you?

Ipushedmygrannyaffabus · 10/05/2017 04:58

Thanks both - even just knowing I'm not the only one awake in pain helps! (Selfish!). I'd love to try a hot bath but to be honest I'm terrified I,ll get stuck in it as it's so uncomfortable to move.

Not tried diclofenac so will give that a go. My prescription for ibuprofen runs out today (only got a few days worth as I can't really take it long term due to interaction with other meds) which is a nightmare. How long does this last, does anyone know?

I've had the steroid injection and it gave me a lot of relief! I had forgotten what it was like to walk pain free in fact.
It's not a permanent solution though, my hip is bad again at the moment.
To help get comfortable at night, I have an extra pillow long ways in between my knees and ankles. This apparently helps to keep the hips in a neutral position. It makes a big difference for me. Hip bursitis can be miserable, you have my sympathies!

Shannaratiger · 10/05/2017 06:09

I can only give sympathy, same thing here as well. Now getting arthritis in my little toe so hurts lying on my side as well! Hmm

mycavitiesareempty · 10/05/2017 07:48

Yep, me. It's horrible.

Have had the injection twice, it sorted it out for a year a pop.

My advice would be to avoid any of the following:

Carrying anything heavy one-sided.
Sitting cross-legged, big big no.
Standing with weight on one leg.
Developing a weak core.
Sitting in bucket-style seats in a car.

Adarajames · 10/05/2017 10:18

Weirdly having sedation. For dental surgery had given me a few months release from the various pains, unfortunately it's not carried on and pain has now returned in places, especially my right hip Angry. Got more surgery next week with sedation, really hoping will have similar side effect, but as didn't the first time I had sedation, there's no certainty, but would be oh so wonderful if it did!

mycavitiesareempty · 10/05/2017 11:50

Is it valium you have for sedation or another benzo? If so that kind of suggests muscular involvement, as valium is often prescribed for e.g., back pain caused by muscle spasm.

Adarajames · 10/05/2017 12:24

No not Valium, can't remember but it's a mixture of drugs, (inc one that in USA is used for lethal injections! Shock Angry ) but it's not muscular as other benzo drugs havent helped, also not bone as x-rays came back clear, so they've decided most likely neuro like most fibro pain, but the meds I take for nerve / neuro stuff also don't stop it, so feck knows but it's an utter bastard and am so unimpressed it's back!

Milliways · 10/05/2017 16:44

I used diclifenac and had injections when it got too bad. My whole thigh could go numb!
I did get given some exercises to help the muscles which also helped stop it recurring.

Hecticlifeanddrowning8 · 10/05/2017 18:48

You have my sympathy I had this last year for 6 months and it was miserable .
I found the best pain killers were co codamol (prescribed) and narproxin (prescribed)
I know people who swear by the steroid injection for bursa pain but I'm too much of a wimp for that .

thenightsky · 10/05/2017 18:57

You have my sympathy. I have bursitis caused by high hamstring tendinopathy on my left hip and moderate arthritis in my right hip. I have Naproxen on prescription for the last three months, but my GP called me in for a meds review and told me I have to wean myself off it and learn to control the pain with exercise! How the hell I'm supposed to do that when I need the Naproxen to be able to move enough to do exercise?? I'm terrified he's just going to stop it. Sad I'm seriously considering the black market.

Out of interest... those of you who have had the injection... just how painful was it? Be honest.

mycavitiesareempty · 10/05/2017 22:17

Not anything to write home about pairwise. Stings but that's it.

Ipushedmygrannyaffabus · 10/05/2017 23:05

I'm going for the injection tomorrow, literally didn't get a wink of sleep last night and with an 8 month old baby to look after that's not good! Slightly scared by the fact I apparently need a 40 min appointment for one injection but I'm willing to do anything!

I have no idea how some of you have coped for months. Hats off to you all, I'm going demented and I'm only 4 days in!

Purplefrogshoes · 10/05/2017 23:16

I found the injection helped but didn't completely take the pain away. I use a big long pregnancy pillow for sleeping, I find it really helps if I put it under my knees to help me get to sleep. I have used a rolled up bath towel under my knees when away from home

TheFairyCaravan · 11/05/2017 00:13

I've got it on both sides, among other problems with my pelvis, back and hip joints. It's so incredibly painful. I take a huge cocktail of meds. I find the steroid injections work really well.

I had one just over 2 weeks ago and I'm uncomfortable rather than in agony.

Good luck tomorrow.

hollygolipo · 11/05/2017 16:30

I think I have this - mine is an excruciating burning pain in my left hip that hurts to touch and is worse when I walk and especially bad at night - I've not seen a doctor yet... Any advice or thoughts gratefully received- it's agony!

I had the injection twice, the first time it took for only about 3 weeks but I didn't rest properly. The second time I rested for 5 days and it was successful. I'm having issues with the foot on the same leg now & dreading going to the doctor & being told what's wrong with it.
