At the end of my tether with headaches has them for 10 years sometimes worse sometimes better periods but always there. Has anyone had this piercing and if so would you recommend ? Thanks v much

There's no evidence it does anything at all for migraine, although some people report it helps (placebo?).

It's not really worth getting unless you also like the piercing and want to get it done - it's quite painful and takes about a year to heal. It's very pretty though, and I love mine!

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 08/05/2017 14:12

Made no difference to mine, it I love the piercing anyway. I also had it done in the hope of it working on my migraines. I don't know anyone it's worked for IRL but people online often report it has worked for them.

GingerHanna · 08/05/2017 14:13

I have one and my migraines didn't change a jot.

littlemissM92 · 08/05/2017 14:21

Not was I was hoping you would all say :(

Booked in for acupuncture will see if that does anything it's just so expensive for this crap we don't choose to get ! Rant over

I had less migraines with mine, had one every 1 to 2 weeks but I've only had 3 in the year since I've had mine done. I still get headaches but they seem to go quicker and don't develop as much into migraines. Don't care if it's a placebo effect if it means I have less!
I love the piercing too and ended up with loads more after having it done as i realised I liked piercings!

TeaStory · 08/05/2017 14:25

You have my sympathy littlemissM92. If someone offered to shoot me mid-migraine (every 6 weeks or so), I'd probably agree. I've had broken bones, dislocations & all sorts but migraine is hands-down the worst pain I've ever felt.

Hugs to you!

Jonsnowsghost · 08/05/2017 14:25

P.s. can't help to give it a go, you can always take it out if you don't like it and let it heal

littlemissM92 · 08/05/2017 15:38

Tea ditto to the broken bones tonsils out fractures migraines are the devils work Sad

Go to a neurologist, not a piercer.

I say that as s fellow migrainer. Flowers

FannyWisdom · 08/05/2017 15:42

Had mine done on a whim, anything to help.

I had both done four weeks ago so still have the longer bars in.
Can't say I've noticed a difference but I'd assumed the bars need to be tight to apply pressure?

£20 is a small price to pay even if it's placebo.

HeyRoly · 08/05/2017 15:48

I know nothing about migraines but a little bit about piercings, and a barbell should never be so short that the balls squeeze either side of the piercing site. You'd create all manner of pain and swelling and problems.

I'm not sure what it is about the daith piercing that's supposed to stop migraines occurring, but it's definitely not because it applies pressure anywhere Smile

FannyWisdom · 08/05/2017 16:00

Thanks Roly I'll keep that in mind. Grin

I'll try pulling on em a bit next headache if I'm not sobbing in a corner I left them alone to heal up so far.

GingerHanna · 08/05/2017 16:03

Please note that the daith is one of the longest healing piercings - over a year is not uncommon so it's a big commitment.

HappyAxolotl · 08/05/2017 16:26

FannyWisdom don't pull on the bars at all, you risk them migrating & rejecting if you do that. Unhealed piercings need to be babied.

HeyRoly · 08/05/2017 16:28

Yeah, cartilage piercings are a bugger to heal. Definitely don't pull on them!

AnnaThursday · 08/05/2017 16:43

I empathise with the migraine pain, OP.
Many a time I've spent sobbing on my knees in the garden
in between throwing up. If I'd had a gun I would have shot
myself - anything to stop the pain.

A neurologist put me on Epilim (an epilepsy drug) which
worked like a charm for a couple of years - then the headaches
started again...
I next saw a French neurologist who prescribed a high dose of
beta blockers (about 12 years ago) and I've been ok since.
Touch wood.

Except for when some bright spark occasionally
suggests I reduce the dose which always ends in the
migraine coming straight back with a bang again.

I hope all of you who suffer terrible headaches find relief -
it's a bloody awful affliction.

FannyWisdom · 08/05/2017 16:49

Ok no pulling too Sad

I saw a vid somewhere online with a bloke running at a wall to knock himself out because of cluster headache.

Completely understood him I would knock myself oot if I could run!

flissfloss65 · 08/05/2017 16:52

Acupuncture was the only treatment that worked for my ds. He had a set number of appointments on the nhs at our local gp, both by our GP and a specialist nurse.

Really worth a go.

LockedOutOfMN · 08/05/2017 16:52

I know 3 people who have had -regular- Chinese cupping for migraine relief. For 2 it worked brilliantly and for the 3rd it worked well but not perfectly. So maybe worth trying?

littlemissM92 · 08/05/2017 22:29

Thanku everyone will try acupuncture first and report back
