Swollen glands, sore throat and flu EVERY month!

What is going on. I'm so fed up of feeling and being ill. I've just recognised it coincides with my period.

Not only do I get raging pmt. I get cramps, stiff sore neck, headaches, flu, sore throat, nausea, chills. I'm completely exhausted but also don't sleep.

I get anxiety, panic, could cry and usually do over things that are just silly.

My DM is convinced I have glandular fever. Blood tests have shown nothing. I've just recovered from a chest infection that took almost 2 months.

I don't drink, I eat well, I exercise. I go to bed stupidly early. If I'm not asleep by 9.30pm I just don't feel human and can't function. I'm up at 6am every day.

I don't understand!

No real advice but I had something very similar about three years ago. I ended up gaining weight as I was constantly sick and miserable even though I had previously been very fit and healthy. I was working in an office attached to a warehouse and I reckon my environment was partially to blame as it was dingy and windowless. I had two throat infections in six months and I had never had one in my life previous to this and I had constant colds. I changed jobs and started a new fitness regime and my health dramatically improved.

I've had one hell of a year. In fact the last 5 years, make that 10 have been so stressful. I'm coming out the other side now but this is adding to it.

I'm certain stress is why my immune system is weak. I feel like my body goes out of control and hormones are part of it.

Hi rink sorry to hear your going through the mill!
Can I ask, do you have small children? Ie dc in nursery? Only asking because I went through a very similar time of it start of winter 2015-summer 2016. Had infection after infection and after never visiting the docs or taking medicine I was never out the place for various antibiotics, chest X-ray for infection, sinusitis, bacterial tonsilitis, stiff neck/shooting pains in head, swollen glands for weeks on end, laryngitis and generally run down and fatigued!
Like you I was tested for glandular fever as it seemed to fit the bill but came back clear as did full blood count Hmm
All I could think was it coincided with my ds starting nursery and even though he had the odd sniffle along with me I seemed to come off worse! Cleared up in the summer (and ds stated pre school so was out of the slobbering baby room at nursery) and it all cleared up and been back to normal since!

I do believe you can have a bad run of luck and if your constantly run down then you just need to rest as much as poss and eat well and wait for the summer months to feel better.

Also, maybe worth considering the fact that a blood count at docs doesn't check for more specific disorders such as tyroid, certain vits etc . I was fobbed off for months before they would even check for glandular fever and that was only because the nurse demanded it!

Feel better soon! X

Hi Rinky ,

low functioning immune system and fatigue, that could very possibly be due to Vitamin D insufficiency.

At this time of year , in UK , our bodies have not been able to synthesize any vitamin D for about 6 months. It mainly comes from the action of sunlight on our skin , UVB in sunlight is absorbed by the atmosphere from mid Oct to mid April , , and I assume you have not been out much in the sun , for the last few weeks. It is not exactly the weather for it !

Although my suggestion may be a little out of the box, you might like to check your level. If it is low , then you can very easily get it back up to where it should be , by taking very cheap supplements. Amazon , Holland and Barrett etc. Vit D is the cheapest supplemental vitamin you can buy.

IF , you are vegetarian ?, then you should know that you may not be taking in a background level of Vit D , found in animal fat , which could result in even lower levels.

You could ask your doctor for a test , he may be accommodating. Alternatively, a very quick test can be done by sending for a blood spot test from the NHS lab at : Sandwell, NHS trust. West Mids. If you ask for a test yourself and not through the doctor then

, www.vitamindtest.org.uk/ they charge £ 28 .

The benefits of a sufficient level of Vit D are so great , that it is very worthwhile checking , and also taking action , if you are indeed low.

Have a look at this thread , where you will find many of us that were Vit D deficient , how it affected us , how we felt , how we remedied it .

I have posted a lot about it here on Mumsnet , just search my nickname , if you think it worthwhile .

Best of luck , I hope this is helpful.

Possibly a post viral syndrome (similar to ME/CFS), that flares up around your cycle. My medical conditions always flare near AF, and include similar symptoms to you plus some bowel issues.

Rinkydinkypink · 05/05/2017 16:49

Yes I have 2 DC. One is in pretty school. She doesn't seem to get sick very often.

I've taken vit d and B bits for last few months. I also had a full set of bloods done in October. I was told they were satisfactory but didn't get any more information.

Ive had to leave work early today as just feeling rotten.

I've not been to doctors every time because I just get told its viral, that I need to rest (impossible with sick parents, kids and work!).

I don't know what to do but struggling to carry on like this.

rinky
in my opinion , you should find out what your vitamin D level was . So, ---- ask the surgery, ! Please note , that in early October , your vit d level would most likely have been around the maximum for the whole year. If it was less than 100 nmol/Litre , you should try and raise it. In winter - from mid-October till mid April , your level will probably have been dropping , depending upon your supplementation ...? How much were you taking per day ? . an adult requires about 3000 to 5000 IU per day to keep a suitable blood level.

Rinky Dink,

I know this is an old thread, but is this still happening?

Have u looked up PMDD? I am a sufferer and I used to get all the symptoms you mentioned.
