Name changed (for obvious reasons!)
Hi, I'd be so, so grateful if somebody could give me some advice please.
Yesterday i noticed that there were what appeared to be two worms in my poo . There were two stools and each one had what looked like a worm sort of dangling out the side of them. Now, I've seen thread worms before, they are small and white aren't they? Well these were about the width of a piece of spaghetti and about 3/4cm long. They weren't white either but the same colour of the poo. I have googled and can't really find an answer. There is the tape worm which I think is more flat in shape? and apparently is very unusual and usually caught from eating meat or spending time in certain countries but I'm vegetarian and haven't spent time in any of the named countries. There are other worms like the roundworm but again they're very unusual so I don't know Confused.
I have a very itchy anus and it does feel a bit 'wiggly'. I've had that for a little while but I have a lot of bowel issues (coeliac, ibs) so put it down to that. It itches throughout the day as well and I'm sure I read that threadworms (not sure about the other types of worms) only itch at night.
I actually phoned the gp surgery yesterday and the receptionist said that a doctor would call me back but nobody did. From what I've read online, gps aren't very familiar with these worms (apart from threadworm) and often aren't able to diagnose or prescribe.
So, if there's anyone knowledgeable around I would be ever so grateful for some advice.
Do threadworms grow that long? I've only seen teeny ones. And could they appear brown in colour if they've been mixed in with the poo? Has anyone had tapeworm and does it sound like it could be that?
Are the treatments for tapeworm and threadworm the same? If so I'll just go to the chemist and get that.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read that, hope I didn't make you feel too sick. Would be so grateful for any guidance.

Have you travelled anywhere tropical lately?

Tapeworms are flattish, and segmented.
No, threadworms don't grow that big.

Are you 100% sure it was a worm? Cause vegetable fibre can pass through pretty undigested, and look worm like. Were they alive? Although if not mobile, could still be worms.

Roundworm would fit more with your description.

In an ideal world, a sample would be examined in a lab, to make sure of diagnosis. The current overloaded NHS being far from ideal, I would be inclined, if you're not getting a response from GP, to seek treatment from a pharmacist. They usually a private room or nook, where you can speak.

Not hard to treat, whether pharmacy or GP.Make sure you mention the other bowel issues, and any treatment you're receiving.
