Face shingles or spots and a headache?

I'm curious and feeling increasingly rotten... awaiting doctors appointment hopefully soon if I don't improve.

I have a sore under my nose which is really, really painful, 3 spots on my face that seem infected and won't heal properly and now a burning and tingling feeling over the right side of my face which has spread from my temple to my top lip. A headache has now set in and I feel quite watery eyed and tired. My face feels incredibly sensitive to touch as though it should be bruised or sunburned but no marks or anything.

I originally throught maybe it was an infection I had spread when squeezing a spot but realised that my Dp had a coldsore last week when in hospital and I'd joked that I'd never had one before so not to give it to me.

Google takes me to shingles Hmm. I'm prone to a bit of hypochondria at times though so am trying not to jump to massive conclusions and stopped reading. Can an initial coldsore infection cause a bit of a virus which goes away? Shingles seems a bit extreme even for me and I don't have awful pain, just niggling, want to close my eyes pain and no blisters.

I don't want to get laughed out of the doctors with a tube of clearasil and paracetamol if I can help it, but at the same time - bit anxious about leaving it.

I had a few horrible spots under my eye and I thought it was impetigo. Doctor said it was shingles and you have to be careful when it's in that area. I eventually ended up with spots on my trunk too. So it's possible that's what you have.

Oh and forgot to mention, I have sore gland like lumps under my chin/neck, in front of my ear and my collar bone. Only pea sized but they've been up for nearly a week now.

Gah! Will get the appointment then just in case. The weird feeling is in the corner of my eye too so don't want to let it get bad (if that is what it is). DP said my face didn't look quite right last night but couldn't explain what he meant Confused. At least I can get acne cream on prescription for the manky spots if it's just me being over the top...

Thanks for the reply

Please get medical assistance immediately. I've had shingles on my face. It can cause blindness if not treated quickly enough.
Hope all goes well for you.

Thank you

yes, if it's bothering near your eye please get seen today.

I have a friend who has had shingles on her cheek about 5 times now - it always seems to come up when she's tired or recovering from some other illness. Now she recognises the symptoms she goes to the doctor straight away and gets an antiviral drug that seems to work well for her. Your symptoms sound very similar to what she has if she doesn't start taking the tablets early.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 03/05/2017 15:37

TBF if you've never had a coldsore you won't realise how debilitating and sore it can be, including burning and tingling.

But even if it is 'just' a coldsore, if it's near your eye the first time then it should be seen by a gp. At the very least they'll give you advice on its care. So yes, make the appt and go.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 03/05/2017 15:40

sounds like shingles to me...not sure if you are ast the limit for antivirals..is it 5 or 7 days? Dh had it a while back and was really floored by it, but the anti virals really stopped the rash

it can occur in the eyes too so do be careful, if it is on your head/cheek/nose it's often the same nerve branch that is involved, just depends which branch.

Make sure you warn the surgery in case there are vulnerable people there who have not had chicken pox.
It is the same virus and sounds as if it is shingles.
You should wait away from the main waiting room.

PollytheDolly · 03/05/2017 15:49

I had shingles which resulted in the blisters coming out on the roof of my mouth.

It started with sore nose, on and off and tingling, dry eye one side and feeling like ants crawling up my cheek.

You'll get the antiviral from the docs but like said above, it's the eye which is the most worrying.

dementedpixie · 03/05/2017 15:49

Shingles isn't airborne like chicken pox so in order to transmit chicken pox you would need direct contact with fluid from the shingles blisters

endofthelinefinally · 03/05/2017 15:56

www.nhs.uk/conditions/Shingles
Read the section about contagion.

Thattwatoverthere · 03/05/2017 16:18

The verdict was impetigo, coldsore and a virus. Got to keep an eye out for a rash or blisters as shingles wasn't ruled out but hopefully the dose of antibiotics will do the trick on the scabs I do have Smile

The cold sore is just in my nostril and is so sore, my eye is just tingly so hopefully nothing pops up there, will go straight back if it does!

Looking forward to having a normal face again soon! Thanks for the advice everyone
