i had sinus surgery 3 days ago and still feel really woozy- sweaty dizzy high pulse, can't read or concentrate and keep needing to go back to bed. I wonder if I should be feeling somewhat more normal by now? I have some important paper work that must be done over the next few days (and a family to care for!). Any ideas how to start feeling human again?

It took me a good week after having nasal surgery I'm afraid. I felt absolutely dreadful and like you, had to stay in bed.
Are you on any medication?

Thanks Okite and Ketiegg. Sounds like I just have to have more patience. I was given some heavy duty pain killers but I am only using paracetamol - I feel woozy enough without making it worse. I only took a week off work but at this rate can't see me being fit enough.

I was off for about 2 weeks after GA, felt dizzy, sick etc so give yourself a bit more time!

CountryCaterpillar · 01/05/2017 11:28

I was off 2 weeks and still wasn't "right". I dont think I do well with general anaesthetics.

Took me a good 10 days after my last GA (and I was only 'under' for around 10 minutes!). Had to call the doctor out in the end, I was so concerned. But it seems I just react really badly to it.

I had a 3.5 hour GA last Monday and I still feel terrible.

I'm hot and bothered, I can't turn over in bed without going really dizzy, I haven't got much of an appetite and if I read or crochet for an hour or so I have to have a lie down for an hour.

I'm still in bed because the surgery was on my pelvis and it's the most comfortable place. All can I manage to do is get up, shower, put clean pyjamas on.

I hope you feel better soon. Flowers

Week as an absolute minimum, longer not unlikely depending on how you react and what you had done!

Pp is correct about the person and I think the type of operation. I recently had my gall bladder removed. It was keyhole surgery but due to complications the operation lasted three + hours. I was very sleepy for the first five days and was very wooly headed. After that I stopped taking the pain killers as they were making me feel worse. After that I was as right as rain except for a few twinges in my stomach. I was given two weeks off but could have gOne back to work the first week. I decided to take the two weeks off just to relax a bit as I felt that going back to work to soon and then perhaps going off sick again would not endear me to anybody. Take it easy don't worry about going back to work just make sure you are well enough regardless of the type surgery is a traumatic experience both mentally and physically.

maggiso please get yourself checked out for possible post op infection. Sinus surgery is high risk for bacterial infection because it's such a heavily colonised area and your sweating/fast heart rate are concerning signs.

maggiso · 02/05/2017 09:44

It sounds like getting back to worn in a week was perhaps over ambitious. Thanks everyone.
Thanks Michael. I feel a bit better this morning- not up to a full on day but hopefully won't be spending all the day asleep or in bed! I will see. The bleeding has stopped at last. Although I am sweaty and have a high heart rate I don't have a temperature. I was kept in overnight because of the heart rate.
Fairy I hope you feel better soon. It's horrid feeling weak and dizzy all the time!
I suspect I just don't handle GAs very well- or surgery. I seem to frighten staff with some complication every time I have a procedure!
I now have heart burn - so just when my sinuses might allow me to react/ sleep flat it's back to sitting up.

If you're using paracetamol regularly you won't necessarily get a high temp. Please keep an eye on yourself Flowers and get well soon.

maggiso · 02/05/2017 22:14

Thanks MichaelSheen. I will do. Thanks for the flowers.

Were you signed off for 2 weeks? I was after sinus op and needed it (really should have taken more). First week did nothing but lie flat watching downton, any movement involving looking down was instant nosebleed. Keep rinsing and be careful going outside in the cold. It HURT!! Hope you feel better soon x

maggiso · 02/05/2017 23:38

One lot of paperwork said I would need 1 week off, another 2 weeks but they were for different procedures - I had both - and no I did not get a sick note - I didn't ask. I actually felt worse. At home than in hospital.
