Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows what this is. Dh is in his early 30s and is usually fit and healthy. He has had a rash appear on his back and shoulder and a couple of the same marks on his forehead. It's all under the skin it's not raised or bumpy or itchy.
Is this worth seeing a doctor over?

Fortunately, it's self-limiting, so it will fade in time.

If it is piytriasis, that is. The facial presentation and lack of anterior involvement makes me wonder.

digitdisaster · 01/05/2017 22:22

Looks like hives to me. He's had a reaction to something. My youngest gets them, we've never found out what he's intolerant to- GP said we prob will never work it out. Also gets it with a cold virus on occasion.

digitdisaster · 01/05/2017 22:32

PS Dr prescribed antihistamine

MsStricty · 01/05/2017 23:33

Yes, face unusual. It spread everywhere with me - even my neck - but I escaped the face. It looks so similar though.

Doctor has diagnosed as ringworm - thoughts? ?

I imagine a gp who has seen the rash irl, can give a better diagnosis than a bunch of internet randoms who have just seen a picture!!

highinthesky · 02/05/2017 18:41

The red ring and faded centres are consistent with the diagnosis, as is the presentation on the face. What did the GP prescribe?

Its annoying but will disappear within a month. Be scrupulous about hygiene (not sharing towels etc). If you have any domestic pets, they will the likley source of infection.

WhyTheHeckMe · 02/05/2017 21:35

Thanks :-) we have no pets so no idea where it's come from. Me and 1yr old DS have so far managed to avoid it.
The gp hassle prescribed a tablet he has to take once a day.

Iwanttobeanonymous thanks for pointing that out. Unfortunately the same gp diagnosed dh very severe hand foot and mouth as hives earlier in the year. Dh ended up very poorly. Still stuck with same gp.

To update - dh was prescribed Fluconazole 50mg once a day for 7 days. Within 48 hours there was not even a trace of the rash! Phew

Hi guys. I'm back :-(
6 weeks on this rash has come back with avengence. DH is feeling really unwell with it too (the rash itself isn't bothering him but he has a temperature and is very feverish and severe headaches for 48 hours). The rash is all over his legs, back, tummy and forehead. He's been to the docs 3 days ago who gave him the same Meds as last time but it's getting worse not better.
The doctor was very sure of ringworm and dh won't go back as he feels it's stupid.
Any advice? ! Thanks

Didn't want to read and run although I can't offer advice.

Good luck OP - have you tried a pharmacist? If you've got a good one they're as good as GPS for stuff like this.

X

Wolfiefan · 14/06/2017 23:14

If he's getting worse he needs to go back.
If he has a fever he needs to go back.
Severe headache. Go back.
Hope you get an answer soon.

Longdistance · 14/06/2017 23:16

Have you tried canestan for thrush on the skin.

If he's been wearing shirts in the heat, could be a trigger for thrush.

Just a thought 💭

highinthesky · 14/06/2017 23:38

OH definitely needs to see his GP again. To me, it's looking a great deal like pityriasis rosacea but if he's systemically unwell it needs some further investigation as aside from the widespread itchy rash which can drive you to distraction, there are few other symptoms. I can promise you that the GP will not consider this consultation to be "stupid".

Visit your pharmacist by all means for emollients and antihistamines, but your GP really needs to view the progression of the disease. If it is pityriasis then at least he's reached a halfway point! It will resolve within another couple of months.

sadie9 · 15/06/2017 10:28

The rash may not be related or linked at all to the illness your DH currently has. He could have a virus and then the ringworm reappeared at the same time. He may need another does of the ringworm medication.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 15/06/2017 10:31

could it be discoid lupus?

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 15/06/2017 10:32

i think thats more scaly though, but could make him feel unwell.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 15/06/2017 10:33

he should 100% definitely go back to GP
