sore wrists/tendonitis

I have had pain in my wrists/thumbs for the past 4 mths since my son was 2 mths old. Been to the physio today who diagnosed it as deQuervain's syndrome. They often see it in new mums. Is result of lifting him. Am delighted to now have a name for it as can look it up. Need to wear some thumb splints. Also ibuprofen gel. Have been having acupuncture which is helping a bit. Hope this is helpful for anyone having similar symptoms.

I can sympathise, Sunrise, as I was diagnosed with this when dd was younger. It's very painful, and I used to worry about dropping dd as the pain would come on suddenly if I held my wrist in certain ways - not easy to avoid with a wriggling toddler to hold. The wrist splint was a PIA and I stopped wearing it after a couple of weeks. After a few months of taking anti-inflammatories it cleared up and I have not had any problems since (about a year now, IIRC).

Hi soothepoo, good to hear from someone who has recovered. I have to grab ds by his clothes as cant always pick up normally using thumbs open. I took ibuprofen 3x a day for about a month but it only took the edge off of it. perhaps I didn't persevere for long enough. Also dont really like to take with breastfeeding although GP said OK. Maybe I'll go and have a tablet now and as its always worst in the morning and its ds swimming class tomorrow which is very bad for wrists!!
