DD has been unwell for 5 days, we took her to see our GP who said its viral, we showed him that she had red rings on her legs and he said allergic reaction.

Last night (Sat) DH took her up to A&E cos her temperature was high and she was shaking and has a history of seizures, they sent her home saying viral.

She did the same tonight so he took her back and demanded that someone fully check her over which they did, she has tonsilitis cos they could have picked this up yesterday, the red patches look like ringworm although they are dried up, she has a rash on her back-they think thats an allergic reaction and then to top it off they told DH that she has a heart murmur.

So that has freaked me out, i dont want to google it cos i will worry all night, im going to phone her paed in the morning as they advised us to do so tonight.
Anyone know about heart murmurs?

I don't know anything about heart murmurs, but just wanted to post to say that I hope your DD is much better soon.

Me too - I hope DD is better soon and that you are ok. It must be very scary.

FWIW, my sister was recently told she had a heart murmur, but when they sent her for further checks, she was actually fine.

jenk - my dd has heart problems so I know a bit about murmurs.

A murmur is an extra noise heard as the blood is pumped through the heart. Sometimes the extra noise is because of a structural problem in the heart but often there is nothing wrong at all and it's called an innocent murmur. An innocent murmur can often be heard in a child that is poorly (sim ply because they have a temp and the heart is working faster/harder) so try not to be too concerned. Obviously it's worth having her listened to again once she's well to check that it's gone.

Has she been given anti-b's for her tonsilitis? Tonsilitis and a rash could be scarletina - the rash is a bit sandpapery. Also the bit that looks like ringworm - dd has excema that looks similar to ringworm - discoid excema.

Hope some of this helps and I agree, don't google, I'm sure she's absolutely fine. Take care.

Hi, I have a heart murmer which was diagnosed when I was about 6 or 7, it has never caused me any problems what so ever- in fact I and my mum had totally forgotten about it untill my very thorough GP picked it up again in my last pregnancy, it does not and has not affecte my life in anyway except for a few investigations that I've had for it.

The only symptoms that I've been told to look for are increased or sudden shortness of breath or chest pains.

HTH
