Daughter has sore groin from chicken pox, help!

Hello! Having a bit of a nightmare at the moment. My daughter (who is two tomorrow, bless her) has had the most awful chicken pox. She had high temps for 5 days with it and big sore spots. Went to gp who said it was just bad cp. She didn't get better and was very unwell on sat so took her to the emergency gp. She took one look at her and said she had badly infected chicken pox, and started antibiotics. I am very cross cos my little love could have had 2 days of antibiotics by now. She has been in so much pain with this. She now has red broken areas, on each side of her groin where her nappy has rubbed. I have taken it off all day today, but she is hysterical when she wees. Any advice what to put on it? I have been putting sudocream on it. Thanks in advance.

Aw I am very sorry to hear of this

There was a thread recently with suggestions on, I will search for you

SenoraPostrophe · 11/03/2007 20:34

keep putting on sudocrem, and give her lots of water to dilute her wee.

dd had the same thing, although she was abit older. hope she feels better soon.

FrannyandZooey · 11/03/2007 20:35

Here you are , I hope some of the suggestions given might help you

totaleclipse · 11/03/2007 20:35

Ds had it this bad too, it was awful, put cooking salt in the bath water, it helps to clean and heal, and it wont sting.

totaleclipse · 11/03/2007 20:36

note, cooking salt, not table salt.

SenoraPostrophe · 11/03/2007 20:38

oh yes, salt in bathwater for the spots.

the doc gavce dd some antihistamines for the itching (though that won't help with her sore bits).

friendlyedjit · 11/03/2007 20:41

poor little thing.. i'd do lots of baths which will sooth areas and she may be more comfortable peeing in bath.
Used to use sudocerme for everything but find when skin dried out by it becomes more uncomfortable in little ones. Could try vaseline which keeps area moist but also protects for stinging wee. If still as bad tomorrow you may need another trip to the doc. Hope you and she have a reasonable night

CODalmighty · 11/03/2007 20:42

anthhistamine
the bath hting is toss all use tbh

my eldest is now at the scabbing stage! he's on antibiotics for infected spots and has had alot of pain.

he's on piriton to help bring the inflamation & itching down, antibiotics and i was told not to put any form of sudacrem or drapolene on, dont know what other people have been advised.

we use plain bath water with bicarbonate of soda.it's eased him quite a bit and helped them to scab quickly.

poor thing. i hope she's better soon. can you sit her in the bath and gently shower her after each wee? time consuming but it will help her to not sting so much.

The thread that franny linked to was mine for my dd. I have to say that sudocream wasn't any help at all. there were two creams, Eurax which someone recommended on the thread and the calomine cream from the GP, plus piriton medicine and lots of time spent sitting in a luke warm bowl of water with bicarb of soda in it. it did go eventually but I remember how much pain dd was in so I feel very sorry for your little girl.

Am amazed by the speed of your caring responses, thank you! It is my first time of posting. The spots arent itchy anymore, but her groin is so red and swollen. She is getting hysterical when we give her any medicine (her abs are four times a day, and painkillers), go near her with any cream or put her in the bath. Am finding it all quite upsetting. So glad she wont remember any of this (unlike me!!)

Welcome Aly

we are a kind, sweet bunch on the whole, not given to bitching or making libellous remarks

SenoraPostrophe · 11/03/2007 20:58

sudocrem doesn't help with the sposts, but I would have thought it would help to protect the sore bits in the nappy area?

but as I say, the antihistamines were a godsend.

welcome aly anyway!

What age can you use eurax cream from? It says contact gp is under 3.
(thanks for all your advice, going to sit her in a bath all day tomorrow. That's going to be a fun birthday for her! Was going to the safari park but she can't sit down!!)
