Amber teething necklaces?

Has anyone tried these? Dd is having a terrible time with her teeth, really grizzly and unhappy, plus she's not sleeping well which makes it all worse. I hate dosing her up with Calpol but the Nelson's homeopathis Teetha stuff only has a limited effect when she's really upset. I saw this amber necklace in a catalogue and it's supposed to have an analgesic effect and I was just wondering if it's a load of rubbish or worth a try.

Never heard of this, but I'd be interested to see them if you could post a link? DD chews every thing, so would be interested in getting her one if it's any good.

a friend of mine has one. i dont know if it does any good, he never seems to chew it, although he does chew everything else in sight! i thought it looked very tight around his neck, their necks are still quite short and fat (i'm not phrasing this very well ) i mean they dont yet hold their neck straight, even when they can support their head. it just looked uncomfortable to me.
I suppose anything is worth a try though!

For sleeping we use Bioforce Valerian-hops (from a health shop). it calms them down and helps with sleep. just add 1 drop to their last drink at night. (milk, water anything). add to bottle or beaker or give with spoon.
we find it great and wouldn't be without it at the moment! dd is 8mths and also teething. we also find the teetha good just before she eats or goes for a nap.

gloworm - will try and find the valerian stuff, thanks for the tip. Dd is 13 months so she has more of a neck than a few months ago so perhaps a necklance would not be too constricting - it's hard to tell as the pick does look like it's quite snug. Interestingly, I just found this about amber - makes me want to buy one for myself!

AMBER
A fossilized tree resin from pine trees dating back 20-40 million years. It radiates sun and solar energy. Transmutes negative into positive energy, promoting positive thinking and attitude. A good luck charm for travelers. Activates the solar plexus and root chakra. Amber revitalizes mind, body and soul and helps to relieve depression. Supports physical healing and detoxification. Indicated for disorders of the adrenals, liver and spleen. Gives pain relief for teething children and aids healing of wounds.

i suppose if it doesn't work, you could always shorten it and use it as a nice bracelet yourself

gloworm - I looked for the Bioforce Valerian-Hops stuff but the one they had said not for children under 2. Do you have a special one for babies, or do you reckon the adult one is okay anyway? Dd is 13 months and quite hefty, so I imagine she would be fine.

Have you tried the Parsons homeopathic powders as well (I bet you have, sorry?)

wilbur · 05/07/2004 22:21

Are Parsons different to the Nelsons, MI?

wilbur, we use the adult one, IMO its fine for babies. they only recently changed the label to say "not for under 2", it used to say "half dose for children and 5 drops for infants".
i think they have to change label to keep in line with EU regulations and it doesnt mean that it is not safe for babies, just that they are not allowed to market it towards babies (IYKWIM).
Our dd is 8 mths and we have no worries using it.
