Why has my GP requested blood tests for liver and kidneys when I have a digestion/bowel issue?

Different GP diagnosed a fecolith (basically a poo stone ) 3 months ago and prescribed Laxido. Finally finished the Laxido and the original pain came back. Saw this GP who I don't have much faith in anyway and he eventually said to have blood tests for liver and kidney, but I have no idea why!

Any suggestions? Would a different GP discuss it over the phone with me if I called?

My GP did the same when I was diagnosed with IBS. Not sure if it'd be the same reason - but my GP wanted to check liver enzymes/kidney function because he said some of the symptoms of pancreatic&liver cancer/liver failure/kidney failure cause digestive symptoms. It's probably just a routine test

The GP probably wants to rule out quite a few other things, just to cover all bases. By all means ask to speak to another GP - you are entitled to a second opinion. I don't see anything particularly sinister in what your GP is doing. It is far better to rule things out than not double check.

I have Crohns and my liver function tests are never normal (kidneys are ok).

I think I've 'only' got diverticulitis apart from this wonderful poo stone - we'll see ...

I have IBs and my gp also has done gets for these things too and kidney with on going thrush issue. Guess it is all checking things off list
