Three toenails on one foot have developed soft, white patches on them.
My treatment regime so far has been to hide them with nail varnish and hope they go away, but with no success!
Any ideas anyone?
Sorry, all feet things are a bit disgusting.

fungal toenail infection - see doc for either stuff you paint on or tablets that kill the fungus. It can spread to other toes so act quickly!

I have a fungal infection and cant take anything for it as I am always pregnant or trying to get pregnant. See your gp before it gets too bad - I have half a toenail missing and the half that remains is thick and crumbly, its horribly and makes it difficult to wear nice thing sandals in the summer. If you catch it early enough though, there is a varnish the gp can prescribe which will cure it, otherwise its pills. It will take at least 6 months-a year to get rid of it (I've had mine for 4 years now). Someone also recommended teatree oil as a natural remedy.

nice THONG sandals

what is the name of stuff u paint on the nails?

gloworm · 05/07/2004 13:53

i would try a mixture of pure tea tree oil and pure lemon oil mixed together. dab one drop of this mix on each toe. tea tree is one of the few things that can actually penetrate the nail and get to the cause of the infection which is usually under the nail. most creams etc do not pass through the nail to the underneath (if this makes sense!)
One of our local chiropodists has been recommending this treatment too and has had a lot of success.
you need to do it 3 or 4 times a day and give it time...eventually it will work.

I know this is a dim question but where do I get tea tree oil and pure lemon oil?

Is it a chemist or health food shop or tesco?

thanks

spacemonkey · 05/07/2004 14:00

tea tree oil is available in supermarkets chemists and health food shops

lemon oil is probably a bit harder to get hold of, but health food shops usually carry a decent range of essential oils

make sure you get the essential oil and not a blended one!
