Anxious about sudden onslaught of missed heartbeats

Hi, has anyone had a sudden onset of ectopic beats? This past week has been terrible. I'm having lots each day, and my resting pulse is up to 90 rather than the usual 80. Getting up and moving around brings on lots of skipped beats. I know they are usually harmless but I hate them, I find them really scary.

Do you have a history of health anxiety?

TheLegendOfBeans · 15/04/2017 15:50

Sounds like it could be superventricular tachycardia.

Even with your update I'm still wondering if you've had a 24hr ECG.... that's how they finally "caught" mine when I felt like I was being treated like a malingerer and am under consultant care.

When I was pg and it went haywire they gave me metropolol; beta blockers. That sorted me out. I wonder if they'd help you?

Yes the flushy/dry mouth feeling is more likely menopause stuff but maybe you could have both running side by side?

Ps: I've got SVT. It's fine. Just annoying when my heart goes from 80 to 180bpm and I've got to squat to get it to correct itself. Looks like I'm pooping in the streets Confused

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 15/04/2017 15:54

TheLegendOfBeans my pulse doesn't seem to get much past 120.

Wolfie - I have been anxious about my health at times, but it turns out most of the weird stuff going on with me is down to joint hypermobility syndrome so I had made peace with that. Ectopic beats are freaking me out though :)

Press them HARD for a 24hr ECG.

You'll wear a Holter Monitor for 24hrs with bits stick to your chest. It's a doddle.

Persevere with this x

I'm taking magnesium citrate by Solar and then the magnesium oil from Holland and Barratt. The oil has really helped - only been using it a few days (4 or 5 times a day) and am slowly heading back to normal again (that and lots of relaxation stuff and yoga). Interesting what you said about the vit D migraine, I once gave myself palpitations with a big dose of vitamin d spray. Maybe some people are more sensitive to this than others.

I can't remember which adrenal supplement I took, but will try and dig it out later.

Generally, yes, things are under control now. I'm pretty much back to normal even though my periods haven't finished yet (they went away for 9 months and I thought that was it, but now they've come back for some kind of last hurrah). But this relies on me doing exercise, taking supplements and making sure I do some relaxation as well.

I've found Menopace Extra (with herbs) really good - I think the sage keeps the middle of the night panic at bay, and take that with magnesium and tonnes of EFA. But I have had the spring attacks for several years now. It may be to do with the fact that my dad died in April or it might be the vitamin b/magnesium thing, I have no idea.

chopchopchop · 15/04/2017 16:30

These were the ones I took. Seriphos is the main one for adrenal support, but I was also recommended this to help sleep, and it did work. In fact I might order some again.

I've had ectopic beats and SVT before and know how much it freaks me out so totally sympathise with you op. I do find anxiety is like a vicious circle unfortunately and once I notice them I REALLY notice them!

I've had ECGs/24 hour monitor and all normal - but yes they do increase at that time of the month for me too.

One thing that has really helped slow them down recently is running, I began in January and noticed it had slowed them down so I only had a few per day - some days never. Anyway I'm not sure why but I just wanted to suggest exercise after you are properly checked!

Good luck op Smile

Thanks chopchopchop and wineandsunshine :) Top tips!

I have palpitations where it me like an extra or missing beat which makes me cough but have only had these since premenopausal. They are worse before I'm due on and at ovulation time. I'm 41. You should always check these things but if ecg and bloods ok I'd keep a diary and see if there's a pattern. I also get the cast heartbeat where it feels like it's bursting out of my chest.

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 17/04/2017 21:27

Mummytron it seems as though its a really common perimenopause symptom I never knew anything about, until now!

OP posts:
Aquamarine1029 · 19/04/2017 01:16

It sounds like a classic symptom of anxiety.

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 19/04/2017 12:52

TonySopranosVest - how did you find out it was menopause? My GP refuses to entertain the idea that at almost 43 I have perimenopause symptoms because I am perimenopausal.
