Pre Menstrual Headaches - or mobile phone damage

I seem to get a lot of headaches these days and wonder if its to do with PMT as they seem to come around then although do sometimes come at other times.

I do worry so much about my mobile and wonder if this is causing them sometimes. Does anyone else have the same fears ?

I know that there is no conclusive evidence yet but I can't help but think that they are dangerous and may accelerate the chance of a brain tumour. I have a handsfree kit but think this makes it worse. Sometimes when I get off the phone my head thuds. I have used my phone a lot for business in the past and still use it a fair bit now.

Sorry if I am starting a controversial thread but wanted to get others opinions.

Tillysmummy, I reckon mobiles will be shown to be harmful in the next few years. I use mine a lot too so if you're getting brain damage so will I probably. Apparently the radiation (or whatever it's called) is at its highest when the phone is connecting or starts to ring, so you could always answer it briefly before putting it to your head. Read that somewhere, it's probably b***s!

I'm a bit of a hypochondriac myself so whenever I have a headache I suspect a brain tumour or a subdural haemotoma!!! Know the feeling, but if you are worried you should see your GP maybe?

WWW yes I probably should see my gp but don't want him to think I'm a hypoc ! Maybe I'll keep a diary for a month and then go and see him.

Tillysmummy, the jury's still out on the mobile phone/radiation business but in the meantime if you are worried, maybe you should try & stick to the govt's guidelines for kids' use of mobys - ie keep calls short, down to just essentials. if you're using the phone a lot & getting headaches your posture may be to blame, even if you are using handsfree. also i used to get a lot of migraines at work and eventually found out they were caused by a combination of stress & lack of food (I kept a food/time diary & pinpointed the causes v easily)

Just to reassure you - headaches are usually one of the very last symptoms of a brain tumour. There are usually many symptoms first, such as visual disturbances, loss of balance/co-ordination etc. Your headaches are MUCH more likely to be linked to your hormones (& of course, they are very, very common indeed. I think everyone gets a headache at some time). I really wouldn't worry about the tumour thing. I have to admit I do worry about my mobile sometimes, but think I'm probably just being neurotic & it doesn't give me headaches.

Tillysmummy, if you've got the time, energy and are not a needle phobic, try acupuncture. I've recently had four treatments for my headaches, back and stress. I can honestly say I've not had a headache since I started the course. Hasn't worked as well for the back though but I'll settle for no headaches, hurrah.

Thanks ladies for the reassurance. I thought I probably was being a bit irrational but you never know.

I do think that they can't be good. Will just try and use it less - so difficult when work phones though.

Well, I wont lie, it does twinge a bit but its nothing like having an injection or anything like that. Some of the sites are more tender than others. The twinge lasts for about a second though and then it is painless - sometimes you get a dull ache which is actually quite pleasurable (am I weird?).

I am quite a sceptic actually but I was desperate and my physio SIL recommmended it so I gave it a go. My therapist did come out with a bit of chinese herb stuff that I took with a pinch of salt (it should have been a pinch of clove and cayenne if she was anything to go by -ha!), but the actual treatment really has worked.

Its great for stress too, amazing how laying still for 10 mins with needles sticking out of your back/head can relax you!!!

Sounds good Enid, may give it a go when I get back from hols

Tillysmummy - I used to get headaches at PMT time, according to my GP it was premenstrual migraine (although I didn't get visual disturbances or any other migraine features). GP prescribed extra strong pain killers, but I found that if I changed my diet (cut down on sugar and ate regularly) I didn't get the headaches anymore.
I rarely use a mobile phone

SofiaAmes · 12/06/2002 22:10

Could it be that it's not the phone that's giving you the headache, but the conversation that you've had on it.
Try yoga. I used to get lots of stress headaches and doing yoga (even just once a week) worked wonders for me.
