Can you fly with a plaster cast?

Also posted in travel. Am taking ds and dd to Athens next weekend but ds broke his wrist today. Will he still be able to fly?

don't think so, sm though it may depend on what kind of cast it is... limb might swell up I think..check with your doc

My mum flew to Rome with her foot/ankle in plaster after having a bunion done. She did end up with a DVT though but a child with a broken wrist wouldn't carry the same risk so I would have thought it was okay - check with GP as dolally says

my mum had to fly with casts on her ankles and they were split open before the flight and re-done when she landed. Unsure why, but i would guess swelling.

The cast needs to be split as air pressure can cause the limb to swell and blood flow would be restricted without cast being split.

Thanks, just checked BA site and it says you can't travel for 48 hrs after cast is on. We have fracture clinic on Mon so will double check with doc then.
