Struggling to breath especially when I walk

I had a light cold Thursday/Friday a week ago. In the evening, over half an hour my chest tightened and I started having difficulty breathing.

It got worse and I rang 111 and several hours later via a walk in centre, the doctor gave me steroids, antibiotics and an blue inhaler.

I am still struggling to breath a week later.

During the week the doctor upped my steroids...no change
Went for chest xray...nothing bad on it (thank goodness)
On second lot of antibiotics atm (pill 3 of 8)...no change yet but still hoping this will kick in soon.

Awaiting results from BNP Blood test from Friday.

Just scared really.

Sorry if I've missed it, but are you taking any tablets at all at the moment? Ibuprofen?

Stormtreader · 03/04/2017 13:25

Anxiety can cause hyperventilating, but you can also get anxiety BECAUSE youre hyperventilating - your body is used to the two things going together "Im breathing fast, I must be anxious".

Still in hospital atm.

Doctor thinks I might have disordered breathing due to an viral infection.

He ran a few more tests, all clear so far.

The last test results I am waiting for is for blood clots...doctors pretty sure it isn't that but that is the only real nasty they haven't tested me for yet.

My right arm is so sore, every time they take a pressure reading, it feels like it will fall off with pain....I am assuming this is part of the viral infection thing.

So probably an hour wait and home again but feeling more upbeat that they haven't missed anything this time :)

I'm glad you're getting thoroughly checked, it is a pain waiting around but definitely worth ruling out anything nasty. Time well spent.

witwootoodleoo · 03/04/2017 16:46

Fingers crossed you get the all clear shortly

Good news. They know what I have, it has a long name and is a side effect of a viral chest infection...I must of had 10 days ago.

Basically my lungs are telling my brain that I need more oxygen and hence my fast out of control breathing and chest pressure/pain. But my lungs are wrong I don't need more oxygen. However my brain is still making me breath fast and shallow and I can't control it.

So basically I am out of sync....it should self correct over the next few weeks but I have to take it easy and wait for it to go away on its own.

Plus it is going to be hard to keep reminding myself I am going to be fine...when my body is fighting away. But it could of been so much worse.

So I am recovering from viral chest infection side effects :)

Still can't breath and feel ill but knowing logically that everything is going to be fine is great :)

I'm glad you finally got an answer but please try and take it easy over the next few weeks.

Is there anyone you can rope to help with things around the house until you are better?

Gardenneedstidying · 03/04/2017 17:19

You are right, I will lower my tasks/standards for the next couple of weeks. TBH I can't do too much without sitting down atm, even if I wanted to.

Can't wait to feel better one day soon :)

Glad you've got an answer at last OP. The only person who suffers if you do too much is you; I'm going mad trying not being able to manage my normal activity levels but I will get there and it will all still be waiting Sad. Nothing is more important than your health and accept any offers of help going.

Gardenneedstidying · 03/04/2017 18:57

Hope you feel better soon Jane

That's great you know what's wrong and importantly that it will improve. Well done on going back!

Gardenneedstidying · 03/04/2017 19:57
