Tight band around upper stomach and rib pain

Hello , I have been suffering with pain around my right ribs which spreads to the left. I am awaiting an appointment for an abdomen ultrasound. I had a chest X-ray and bloods which were clear.
When eating now especially bread or potatoes I have this tight band feeling around the area just below the breasts . As well as the rib pain.
Day on day the pain is worse. But I still don't have my appointment yet. I'm concerned I can't carry on like this for weeks. If I go back to GP could they speed things up ?

Oncandystripedlegs nice to hear from you :-)still feel quite sore and tender and windy . Are you waiting on a scan appointment ? Yeah I have to go back to GP . Be referred I suspect waiting list for removal won't be quick ! Low fat for me I guess as boring as it sounds better than the pain x

Glad to hear you have a diagnosis. I had 53 slightly bigger than peppercorn sized stones, in a pot by the side of my bed!!!

Oncandystripedlegs · 14/04/2017 10:42

Yep, I have had some blood tests so waiting for the results of these and dates for a scan . No more attacks but feel tender and bloated and sick on and off .

I managed to find a Rosemary Conely book in the charity shop which is all low fat recipes . Apparently, she came up with diet when she had gallstones. I am very bored already of chicken and boiled potatoes so going to try some different recipes.

Does eating fat actually trigger an attack? NICE guidelines only say to restrict anything that brings in an attack, there is no guidance to just blindly do low fat.

I had to do low fat when I had a gall bladder drain in, but before that was put in the nutritionalist in the hospital said no benefit in doing low fat.

Oncandystripedlegs · 14/04/2017 17:44

That's interesting, the GP told me low fat but I have read contrasting advice on NHS direct Etc. To be honest , I am scared to try incase it does trigger another attack . I think mine was triggered by very fatty food and chocolate but can't be sure . I have also read that eating no fat and losing weight too quickly can also trigger it

VLCos · 14/04/2017 22:01

To be honest I find almost anything is triggering my pain now fat or no fat !

I had my scan today and the sonographer said she couldn't see any obvious gallstones. So back to the Gp next week once she has the report . I have pain in my ribs now quite a lot so was convinced it was gallstones. All my bloods came back normal too so who knows .

VLCos · 02/05/2017 19:23

Ah that is strange . My bloods were always normal. Some people don't get stones but get sludge which cause pain and doesn't show on ultrasound. Your gp might have to send you for a different test

Will have to see what she thinks next week. I am wondering if it is something completely different now!! How are you feeling? Any news on having your gallbladder out?

VLCos · 03/05/2017 11:18

During your ultrasound they would have looked at the organs in that area so least you know they are OK . Pain of and on no date yet think it's quite a wait !

Please, please insist that you get an urgent GP appointment, I’m not saying that it is,but they could be symptoms of Ovarian Cancer. You need to get your CA125 levels checked they should be between 0-35.

I’ve been following this thread for a year because I’ve had a tight feeling around the bottom of my rib cage. At times it has felt like something was popping out from under them. I though it was a hernia, then possibly my liver etc. I had every imaging possible...CT scans, MRI’s, Xrays. I’ve seen over 30 specialists. I thought I was losing my mind. NONE of the specialists I saw could figure it out. I even had nerve block injections for my intercostal muscles but it didn’t help. Finally a neurologist put me on trileptal for entrapped nerves in my abdomen. Try reading about Anterior Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment. For the first time in over a year I have relief!!! I literally thought I was going to have to live with this for the rest of my life. I can’t believe I finally have relief.
