fed up with vomit and doctors

dd2 had hospital appt today. paedatrician has said her vomiting is basically attention seeking, which probably started from when she had reflux as a baby. dd2 doesnt gag to make herslef sick or stick her fingers down her thraot or scream till she is sick. she is just being sick. at firat i was told it was an intolerence, then reflux, now attention seeking! i am totally fed up with it. i'm thinking about dumping dd2 sick covered clothes and bedding in the gp and hospital waiting rooms on alturnative weeks.

Misdee, sorry to hear about your DD. How old is she? I have a DD, she is 8 months and she has been a very sicky baby but after being fobbed off by the doctors/paediatrician etc I have taken her to a homoepath and she is rarely sick! I know that as she gets older she is less likely to be sick but I feel that for me it has worked. I hope you manage to find something that works for your DD. I know how upsetting and annoying it can be.

she is now 22months, as the vomiting isnt affecting her weight gain at all, they just dont seem interested. bt surely this isnt good for her thoat and teeth (stomache acid burns and erodes teeths). we have tried gaviscon for a while with no real benefit, was being just as sick as before. i am starting a food/vomit diary to see if ican find a pattern at all, as it seems like the gp/paed just arent interested.

misdee, I was ignored by doctors for years with my 2 (both constant vomiters, now aged 2 and 3) as they never lost 'enough' weight for it to be taken seriously!. Thankfully it slowed down as they got older and now they are fine (but I endured YEARS of it and it seriously put me off having another child).

But dd (3) has just been diagnosed with an epigastric hernia. I asked if this may have caused the reflux when she was younger - it may have done - but you know what? no-one ever examined her stomach when she was young so no-one knows how long it could have been there (it's only just become visible now). V annoying.

If you know there is something wrong don't let them fob you off. I just knew when ds2 was 7 or 8 months old that there was a problem, but he wasn't diagnosed with cp until he was about 16 months old. By the time he got physio underway he was 19 months old, and his physiotherapist has told me he has undoubtedly suffered as a result of that. Good luck.

oh FFS misdee. Attention seeking FGS! Hope you summoned up your dirtiest look for the paediatrician.

Might be worth looking into homeopathy- can be really good with this sort of stuff. The price isn't too bad as you only need monthly/6 weekly appointments (and usually only about 2 or 3 before moving onto an "ill call you when I have a problem basis". A lot of homeopaths try to offer subsidised clinics etc as well. When the drs have given up it can be a really good thing to try.

They'll never be interested while she's gaining weight unfortunately.

although agree with lou too!

Thanks Jimjams

i am still in shock, i am now seriously thinking about alternatives as its not fair on dd2, me or dh and dd1 to have a vomit covered house/car. the hospital is pretty useless, i really do not like it there, if i had my way i'd be off to stevenage lister as at least i know they are pretty good there. I'll look into homopathy and maybe even cranial ostopathy (excuse my spelling) as i know some babies, altho younger than dd2 have had good results with CO when suffering from stomache probs.

No-one has ever looked at her tummy, or even had a good feel about it. i think they have me down as a nerotic mother there, he always didnt see a problem with her waking, but she only took about 10small steps as she is scared of the doc. 'if there is still a problem when she is 5, then ask for us to see her again'

it is digested food, altho sometimes not fully. its the smelliest, most rancid sick imaginable.

when is she normally sick?

misdee, no-one ever examined either of mine properly and I am convinced that the words neurotic mother are written ALL over my kids medical files. I insisted that dd was allergy checked (as she often came up in hives when she was a baby and I was sure this was aggravating the vomiting) - only one thing (egg) came up in her blood tests and when they did other tests, it was still the only thing that reacted. I insisted she was brought in for a milk challenge which she duly went and failed (and I felt like shouting I TOLD YOU SO!).

Although she is clear to have milk now, if she has too much dairy in one day it definitely makes her feel sick. Milk is a big one to cause vomiting (and it smells lovely when it comes back as well).

The only advice I can give you is that they will almost certainly never take you seriously whilst her weight gain is OK. I guess you can see why in a medical sense as she is obviously not vomiting enough to cause her any medical problem (but that's before all the emotional stress of it all!). In terms of attention seeking, I know my ds can vomit on demand now (he had reflux as a baby) and when he is in a really pissy mood, he tried it on BUT you would know if it was attention seeking as they do it to an audience and it's fairly obvious what they are trying to do.

I would look at what she's eating - especially if it seems to happen more on some days than others. Sorry I can't be more help.

Agree with Jimjams, have a look at homeopathy. My sister was very ill in a sort of unspecific way (IYSWIM) when she was a child, and the GP insisted that she was just trying to get out of going to school. My mum took her to a homeopath, who diagnosed several very severe food intolerances and prescribed several remedies as well as diet changes. Within a week my sister was almost back to how she had been before her 'illness' started, and within a month she was happy at school again, her skin was almost back to normal, her stomach-aches had disappeared etc etc. It took longer than that to 'cure' her, and she had to be very careful with her diet for years, but the results were truly dramatic. The GP's reaction was 'well I told you it was psychosomatic'!
