I need to do something about my pelvic floor, don't I...

Sorry if TMI...

Long story short, gave birth to DS2 6 month ago.

At around Christmas I thought that my pelvic floor started getting better again... in the sense that I didn't have to clench when laughing.

I also did some postnatal yoga, which I thought helped.

Now I have had the cough from hell for two weeks... and it turns out my pelvic floor is nowhere near sorted.

I need to see my GP, don't I?

Yes - get a physio referral. 6 weeks of physio sorted me out after birth of DS2!

Chattycat78 · 29/03/2017 13:34

I did this recently- got referred. I'm 9 months post birth of ds2 now. Am glad I did it- will just refer you for physio. I was leaking after weeingv(sorry tmi) and I also have a slight prolapse after a vicious forces delivery with ds1 Sad. I knew things weren't great when I was weeing myself when I was vomiting with morning sickness with ds2.

You're not alone!

Vicious forceps delivery....

TinfoilHattie · 29/03/2017 13:36

Definitely see a specialist women's health physio. I saw one after my hysterectomy and she gave me lots of exercises and things to do. She may want to assess your pelvic floor strength by examining you and putting a finger inside - just to warn you!

Normal uneventful delivery for me... but I had polyhydraminos in pregnancy (too much water) and was sort of leaky for the last few weeks. Lots of pressure for a long time!

Have called GP and made appointment - not until mid April. But I wanted to see my normal GP and not anyone at the surgery.

Your pelvic floor muscles will just be really tired, a bit like if you ran a marathon your muscles will still be sore. Womans Health Physio will be great and work wonders, you want to make sure you have a strong pelvic floor for future but hopefully it will be improving by itself by mid April.

The NHS Squeazy app is good for pelvic floor exercises in the meantime.

PragmaticWench · 30/03/2017 14:08

I was just coming on to suggest the NHS Squeezy app but Fauxgina beat me to it. It's free, you can set discreet reminders and it makes you do both quick and slow exercises which is important.

PollyPerky · 30/03/2017 14:49

You can also follow GussieGrips on twitter for reminders and an app.

Thanks all, will follow the suggestions of apps etc.!

Luckily my cough is just about at its tail end! I felt like an old lady the last few days!

I'm de f an old lady. Can't face the gp but it's getting worse. I'm having to buy pads but as I have a bad cough I think a nappy could be more use!!
What will the gp do?

Emma2803 · 07/04/2017 00:09

@chattycat sorry to seem a bit dim but how do you know if you have a slight prolapse? Sometimes I panic that I might have after dc1. A few times I have had thrush and have been putting cream on and thought that I could feel bulging but maybe just cos was sore and swollen.
Other times like at the minute we are ttc #2 and I was trying to check my cervix and could hardly reach it. Don't really have any pain or discomfort during sex. I had a failed forceps delivery (out a bit, hr dropped, shoved back in and emcs) and ventouse but cap shot off babies head.

I've also had a smear 7 months post birth and no mention of anything I think I am just a worrier!!

I know I've something when I cough Blush
