would love to sort out the botched job done on my teeth as a teenager. I'm now in my mid 30s,have slightly overlapping & v crooked front teeth - would veneers be possible or not if overlapping? would a brace be preferable??
anyone had such treatment, if so, any tips, how much did it cost and how long did it take! Thank you oh wise mumsnetters!

Hulla it may be she is just covering her arse so to speak by giving you every possible outcome so if the sensitivity didn't settle for instance, and you need need root canal treatment it wouldn't come as a surprise and seem like the work wasn't done properly. The most common situation I can think of is when we do extractions of lower wisdom teeth we warn patients they may experience some residu after the anaesthetic has worn off due to the nerve lyinh close to the roots of the removed tooth, and in some cases this is permanent. That way if it does happen the patient has been forwarned and it doesn't therefore appear like the job has been balled up. She is being over cautious if this is the case, but I guess better safe than sorry

I know a brilliant dentist...they are expensive...where are you?

RanToTheHills · 07/03/2007 12:40

Yes, COV,I thought it might just be arse covering but when she mentioned it I asked her how possible the liklehood was, in her opinion, as I hadn't realised root canal work might be a neccessity, and she thought it was quite probable. I'm really confused now as I had almost dismissed the veneer option based on that and the bleaching and the bottom teeth not being able to be done. I think I will have to go and see someone else and get another opinion.

HullaBalloo · 07/03/2007 12:43

Sandcastles, I am in Lincolnshire but am prepared to travel to see a brilliant dentist !

I can recommend a dentist in Herts.

Email me on [email protected] & in the morning (It's 11.30pm here, so off to bed soon) I'll give you the link for the website.

ComeOVeneer · 07/03/2007 12:45

I also agree about the lower veneers, they aren't commonly done because most people tend to have cosmetic work done on the top teeth as they are more visible, however they are possible (and without any problems to the nerve).

RTKangaMummy · 07/03/2007 12:47

I have got braces atm and they are deffo brill

Mine was £1250 {+ £150 premium for a ceramic top brace}

IMHO get them done I love it

RTKangaMummy · 07/03/2007 12:49

That is for top and bottom braces bottom one is metal

Mine were cheaper cos he did a special deal for various reasons

ComeOVeneer · 07/03/2007 12:56

Am curious as to who the one in Herts is

sandcastles · 07/03/2007 12:57

sandcastles · 07/03/2007 13:13

Do I get a cut, CoV? I did assist???

Whoooosh · 07/03/2007 13:15

This is a fascinating thread for me as I have been weighing up the options too.

Good news is I am in Herts!-Will email you Sandcastles.

Out of interest, how long is it between the "shaving " of teeth/temp veneers and the "real" ones being applied?

COV-always wondered about your name-just assumed you had a fetish for fake wood from the 70's

sandcastles · 07/03/2007 13:20

Will email you in the morning Whoooosh...d know one.

It's usually around 2-3 weeks depending on the lab turn around. Our practice did it in a week, but more money as the lab had to drop all other cases.

Whoooosh · 07/03/2007 13:21

Thank you-I think I would worry for three weeks-seems like a long time.

I wanted to train as a dentist when I did my A'levels-wish I had now-then again I was crap at physics

sandcastles · 07/03/2007 13:24

3 weeks is an absolute max, tbh, Our turn over was 10 days. We just quote longer, just in case.

I'd be crap at physics too, but I think there should be a fast track way of becoming a dentist, I have been nursing 15 years.....that has to count for something!

HullaBalloo · 07/03/2007 13:26

Thanks for the cyber consultation COV and sandcastles - the cheque is in the post! Now if only you could do cyber veneers for me !!

sandcastles · 07/03/2007 13:28

RanToTheHills · 07/03/2007 13:59

just for an update - been told I'd need 6veneers, could be done easily apparently though dentist loath to as perfectly healthy teeth. i'vetherefore also got a ref to an orthodontist so that I can also explore that option. tbh, sorely tempted to go the seemingly easier veneer route!
