Hi, don't suffer from this myself but my brother does.

HE feels like this all of the time and has found it really restrictive.

He says that it is not so much the panic attacks but the fear of them.

It has stopped him from doing so much....just in case he has one.

Please don't let them take over your life. He is on his way back from the edge now and he can't believe how bad things did get. (he barely left the house a while ago)

take each day as it comes. Try not to over think everything See your doctor and get some medication. And stay posistive.

as a practical tip get yourself a paper bag, when you start an attack or feel it coming on breath normally in and out of the paper bag, hold it at the neck so it blows up like a balloon. don't take deap breaths, just breathe perfectly normally.

He also tried rescue remedy available from most supermarkets and chemists.

I got these quite regularly when stressed.

The cure my local psychology dept gave me was to breath (and you have to practice this when you're not having an attack)longer out than you breath in.

Step 1 Breath in for a count of say 3/4

Step 2 Breath out for a count of 5/6.

It's to do with carbon dioxide in the body, which is why you have to breath out for longer than you breath in.

It really works but only if you practice when you're not in a panic attack so it comes more naturally when you are having one.

I have gone through this over a few years when things were stressful in my life. It is so true that the fear of the attack is far worse than the attack, because that is with you 24 hours a day.
Can't really offer any help but it did pass, and the only way I coped was to take one minute at a time, one task at a time(like getting the kids to school or doing the shopping), and to do some activity, even just running up the stairs to distract myself during an attack.
You are not alone, maybe get a book out of the library for advice too. Good luck.
