Hi, I am a 32 year old mother of one and have just found a lump in my breast. Its not the size of a pea though. Its about 1 centimeter by 1 centimeter and about 2 fingers to the right of my left nipple. Like a swollen gland i would presume would feel like. Does anybody know if this could be cancer or does it just sound like a swollen gland? Cant afford to take time off to go to doctor really so would like peace of mind preferably.

you can't afford NOT to take time off to see the doctor - no one can advise on this over the net - make an appointment straight away and get your mind put at rest.

Sorry, but I think you know what you need to do. You will only get peace of mind by seeing the doctor.

There's a number of things it could be - a cyst, fibroadenoma, problems with a milk duct. But it could be something worse, and if it is then you need it dealt with quickly.

You must take the time out to see the GP. The sooner it's seen the quicker you will have peace of mind if it's harmless, or treatment if it's not.

The chances are that it's probably nothing, but if it is new then you must go and get your doctor to check it out. You say that you can't afford to take time off, but can you really afford not to go to the doc.
At least the doc will be able to put your mind at rest.

It's so scary, I know, but it isn't inevitable that it's cancer. Kbear's right - you have to go to the GP as soon as poss. Please, please do.

LilyLoo · 06/03/2007 14:39

Get to the GP only they can 'give you peace of mind' good luck.

crispyduck · 06/03/2007 14:39

I got a lump checked a few years ago by GP, ashe put my mind at rest and this seemed to disappear as my period started(being hormonal).....tbh you should get this checked out and don't leave it...see GP... Good luck!

Nickinha · 06/03/2007 14:39

Thank you Kbear. I suppose that really is the only option. Are there any other side effects from breast cancer (like a checklist) one could look at maybe?

You must go see a doctor, no question about it. Hopefully it is nothing serious, maybe an elarged gland or a cyst or something but you can't mess about with your health. You know we're right.

raspberryberet · 06/03/2007 14:41

Don't go looking for checklists for cancer, you'll scare yourself witless.

Just make the appointment. Get off the PC and do it now. Please.

Nickinha · 06/03/2007 14:41

Thank you everyone for your quick responses. Guess majority rule.... I will make an appointment as soon as possible. Thank you

My friend has just had a lump removed - problem with milk duct. She was obv worried sick, but if you get seen quickly the worrying is minimised. Go go go!

fruittea · 06/03/2007 14:41

Things like discharge, and your nipples not moving in tandem when you move your arms around, can be signs; but only your GP can advise, and get you scanned.

ScottishThistle · 06/03/2007 14:41

You must go to the GP asap!

It may be nothing to worry about but leaving it un-checked could be very dangerous!

Good luck.

seb1 · 06/03/2007 14:51

Please Please Please go to the doctor it will probably be nothing. But if may not be, my best friend is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer (she found out 2 weeks ago), so trust me when I say you must make time for the doctor.

peegeeweegee · 06/03/2007 17:11

Don't panic - it is more than likely to be nothing.

Whatever you do, do NOT google breastlumps etc. I did and scared myself silly...

I have had 3 lumps in the past 6 years, two have been lumps of fatty tissue, and one was a fibroadenoma. A harmless lump. The size of yours sounds like it could be that.

Please go to your GP - he/she will be able to reassure you and should refer you to the breastclinic.

Please do come back on here if you want to know anything or need your mind taking off it. Having a breastlump is so much more common than you would think, and the chances of it being anything to worry about are very small.
