What's wrong with my ear?!!!

The other week, a very annoying sort of whooshing pulsating noise developed in one ear. Lasted a few days and went. It has come back again and is doing my head in. Google comes up with tinnitus?? I can hear fine out of that ear and I have been using drops at night but it doesn't seem to be helping. I'm flying on Sunday and really worried about the air pressure?

Can anyone help?!

I've had microsuction twice and it is well worth it if you have to fly, as the results are instant. It is expensive (I paid £80 to have one ear done in London) but it is safer than syringing when done by a reputable audiologist or clinic and I think lasts longer as it's so thorough. I would really advise against doing anything yourself as you may cause damage. Likewise, my audiologist advised against Otex and ear candles. When you fly, try using Earplanes from the chemist which are really great - they are little plastic corkscrew type plugs that you put in your ears an hour before landing and they help to ease the pressure. I always use them and they work a treat. I hope you get sorted!

Arriety that looks fab! I'm getting that. Will make life much easier!

So ear drops aren't making a difference. That thing you recommended arrietty Iv used a couple of time and it has shifted some gunk! BUT the noise I can hear is still there and it's constant it's doing my head in. It's like a car on tick over? What can I do?! I fly first thing tomo! Do I keep going with the syringe thing? Iv done it 3 times in 24 hours, have just done it the third time and nothing came out that time.

I don't know what to say. Can you ring an on call doctor and ask about flying?

Purplerainbow · 25/03/2017 21:20

My gp on Friday said it 'shouldn't be a problem' as she said it's wax causing the problem. Iv shifted alot of it but the constant sort of whirring/vibration noise is driving me crazy

You are just going to have to ignore it and wait and see, I think. Good luck! Sometimes ears make noise because things have changed. It may settle. Have you googled early onset of tinnitus, to see if their is any advice?

Purplerainbow · 26/03/2017 06:18

I have had a look THabks, gp adamant it's 'just wax' but I often have problems with my ears. For as lon as I can remember Iv heard odd noises sort of a clicking/pulsating in my ear that echos when I'm doing something like texting, (on an older phone with proper buttons!!) it used to do it! Had hearing test and all fine. Very strange

I have very sensitive hearing, which I find irritating. I also hear things when I'm stressed- in my anxiety, my brain generates the noise of my phone going off. I hunt phone down to check but of course, no missed call, just stress head!

The brain is a funny thing. Hope the flight goes well!

Not sure how the OP is getting on (hopefully okay!) but in case anyone hits this via Google, you might want to:
a) Resign yourself to the fact that, as long as you're managing, it could be "just one of those things", and then...
b) Search for "superior canal dehiscence".
