I remember I was getting a lot of irregular heartbeats for the few months before I had first full-blown attack of atrial fibrillation.

losty · 06/03/2007 14:49

lou - the sort of stress you are under is undoubtedly the cause of your irregular heartbeats. But get it checked out to reassure you. Try to find some ways to unwind when the kids are in bed. (listn to me - I am full of good advice, but am no good at listening to it...)

lou33 · 06/03/2007 14:53

i am the same losty!

doc is seeing me at 9.40 tomorrow

and also my salbutamol has almost run out and i cant find my replacement

What is salbutamol?

A word of advice - if you have cold/flu, steer clear of those Nurofen Cold & Flu type meds - they are really bad for causing palpitations (and in fact having a viral illness in itself can trigger palpitations).

losty · 06/03/2007 15:03

lou - I am v happy to talk/listen etc later if you are worried re your heart etc

Hang in there x

lou33 · 06/03/2007 15:57

thanks, i had some more when waiting for the kids at school

salbutamol = ventolin for my asthma (something i have acquired since giving up smoking over 3 months ago)

it wont be from that because i am not doing more than i should

Salbutamol can cause fast and/or irregular heart beat. Remind your GP that you are on it. There are plenty of much better alternatives for asthma. If your asthma is being properly treated you should almost never need the reliever (the ventolin/salbutamol or equivalent). You should be using a preventer at least once daily. If the salbutamol is a tablet or syrup form, it is even more likely to be causing the heart beat symptoms.

Stress is also a huge contibuting factor. If you are not eating properly you could be anaemic, and that can also cause the symptom.
Your GP should organise a full blood count, and ECG, a treadmill test and a chest Xray, together with peak flow readings. And check your BP.

thanks, only the heart beats thank goodness

the reliever i am using twice sometimes 3 times a day atm (inhaler form), i have just been switched to a new preventer to see if it helps more, but i will mention it

i was using it a lot more during new year tho (when i was sick ) and didnt have these episodes

my peak flow on 1st march was 430, so a bit under my predicted 480, which was when they changed my preventer

the doc went through various things with me , like caffeine intake, then said i need to have an ecg and some bloods taken, so the ecg is next tuesday, and i have to go to the blood clinic when i can fit it in, which will also have to be next week due to ds2 going into hospital tomorrow morning.

OP posts:
losty · 07/03/2007 20:18

lou33 · 14/03/2007 16:26

not so bad thanks, only one episode so far, and that was caused by dd1's school telling me she hadnt turned up for school, when i had dropped her in 15 mins early! They found her in school, th teacher had not marked her as attending for some reason, but it got me panicking for a bit.

it's been lovely today and my bf is on his way to mine for the night, as we dont have many days left (i usually see him fri -sun)
