Tranexamic Acid prescription

I have been prescribed Tranexamic acid for very heavy periods. I finally went to the doctor after years of this as they are getting worse with regular flooding and pain. I have been given tablets today and am due on over weekend. No one I know has had them in RL wondered if anyone could share experience on here? Reading leaflet but nervous but desperate to do something to improve it. Thank you in advance Smile

I think they are a bit like ibroprofen in that you shouldn't take them on an empty stomach.

I actually stopped thanking them 2 weeks ago and still having bad stomach.

I had this medicine for a few years. Now reached menopause. Yay!! It was also prescribed to be taken for a few days before my period but my cycle was so irregular i could never predict it, so I ended by just using it once I was bleeding. I found it made a big difference. And it worked quite quickly. I could relax when I was out, sometimes go away and sleep in someone else's bedding! When I was away from home I was very careful to take it regularly so I didn't flood too badly. What I did find was I needed painkillers too. I was prescribed ponstan ( forgotten its generic name but in the same drug group as Ibuprofen) and it works on prostaglandins so is good for gynae pain. If I didn't have ponstan I was able to take paracetamol with a coffee and that helped a bit.

Ooh love those pills. I was also prescribed mefenamic acid at the same time. The combination of the two was magic! They could stop my period completely. After this baby I am getting my copper coil back in (hormones make me crazy so no pill for me) and asking for this uniquely magical medication combination 😊

I've been taking mefenamic acid for the past 3 periods, and can honestly say that it has changed my life. I know it's not Tranexamic Acid, but I understand they do a similar thing. I can actually leave the house during the first 2/3 days of my period and I don't flood anymore. Serious gatechanger. I'm not keen on long term prescription drug use, but for now these tablets are fucking incredible.
