Strawberry marks on baby (not the same as stork marks)- when do they disappear?

Hi, my dd2, now 5.5 mo, developed a strawberry mark in her left armpit a few weeks after birth. I looked them up in my book and it seems fairly standard - appeared as a very small line (thought it was a crack in the skin with blood in it at first), grew, stopped growing. Says they disappear around about the 2 yo mark - Any experience with this anyone? Can they turn into something nasty or be an indicator of any other problem?

I was told by the age of 7, dd has several, she is 3.

DD2 had one on her side a bit below armpit ... Health visitor said it would be gone by the time she was 5 .. in fact it was quite a while longer than that although it started fading about this time ... but she's now 10 and it's definitely gone

my ds has two...was told at first that they were stork marks, but after looking them up, i think that are haemo- somethings and that they fade after 7years!...

no indication of anything nasty etc

throckenholt · 05/03/2007 11:07

one of my twins had one on his back - it faded by about 2.5 and now is completely gone at 4.

skirmish · 05/03/2007 11:09

especially nothing to worry about...my ds's one is on his forehead!...and i get so annoyed when people ask 'what's happened to his head, has he had a fall?!'...from strangers too...

i'm thinking of changing my answer to 'no, he was being naughty so i burnt him with a cigarette'...just to see their reactions!

BirdyArms · 05/03/2007 11:11

ds1 has one on his bum. He's almost 2 and it's faded a lot but I think it will be at least another year until it's gone

nally · 05/03/2007 11:13

my nephew got one next to his eye at 6 weeks. it was gone by the time he turned 2y

somersetmum · 05/03/2007 11:17

dd has one on her arm. It appeared when she was about six weeks. It was made up of a series of small bumps, but as she has got older it has gradually flattened. Its now completely flat and you can still see a mark, but it is not obvious to anyone who doesn't know its there. She's just turned four. When she was a baby, gp told me they usually disappear by the age of five, but that they can get bigger and/or bleed before they improve (dd didn't have any problems).

I still have mine I'm 28, I actually have 3 but two are tiny and my skin stretched as I grew so they don't show, the third however is about 2 inches in circumference and raised about 1/4 of an inch

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 05/03/2007 13:50

I still have mine too and I am 29 its on the top of my head it is still big and squash as well !

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 05/03/2007 13:51

People always used to ask my mum what had happen had I been dropped in the end my mum told one women she had burnt me with a fag !

Nip · 05/03/2007 13:53

My Ds has one on his back , about a cm in diameter and sticks up somewhat. I;ve been told they usualy go before school.

skirmish · 05/03/2007 13:53

i get so annoyed about people asking, am probably being over the top...but then i also get annoyed when stranger ask 'is he a good baby?'...what would they say if i responded with 'no, he's the child of satan' or some such!

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 05/03/2007 13:57

Your not alone my mum would put a hat on me so people didnt stare as i had no hair and a big purple lump on the top of my head! Mine is no longer purple normal skin colour but it is still a bump when no hair grows people still say to me oh have you bumped your head !

skirmish · 05/03/2007 14:04

i find it really weird...i mean, i wouldn't ask why someone was in a wheelchair etc (ok, maybe not quite the same thing) but i am glad i've found someone who agrees with me! (i thought it might be a british thing - i'm an aussie, and even though we are known to be quite outspoken, i wouldn't ask that!)

My dd had one on the top of her thigh. It was about the size of a 5p piece. It disappeard by the time she was about 18 months old.

It sounds silly, but I sort of miss it. It was part of her as a baby, but now it's gone. (She's 2).

skirmish · 05/03/2007 14:18

it doesn't really bother me cos i'm used to it now, but i just get really wound up about people asking what he has done to his head...ffs..there is nothing wrong with him!

malaleche · 05/03/2007 14:36

Thanks for all your strawberry stories!
So, judging by the majoritys' experience/what they've been told looks like it should be gone by time she shaves her armpits for the first time...
