Are you eating properly?

dinny · 04/03/2007 10:36

dunno - kind of. though thinkiong about it I do feel better if I eat something.

tend not to eat much in day as too busy - eat more in evening.

could it be something as simple as that?

I get light headed and shaky if i haven't eaten properly during the day.

dinny · 04/03/2007 10:41

am so paranoid it is something sinister - my dad is undergoing tests at the Heart Hospital for rare form of cardiomyopathy that is hereditary. dh thinks am making myself feel ill with worrying.

gawd!

my dh is dreadful if he doesn't eat properly. Blood sugar crashes and he gets all clumsy. Try to have a proper breakfast at least. And enough fluid.

Sorry to hear about your dad dinny. That must be a worry for you. When will he get his results?

dinny · 04/03/2007 10:55

maybe it's just tiredness and low blood-sugar. hope so.

saggar, not sure when - he's had battery of tests with these specialists and now they are deciding what he's actually got... then we'll know if we all need to be tested. v worrying.

My dd has cardiomyopathy dinny. I can imagine how worried you are, so your dizziness could be stress too.

Do others in your family have CM?

dinny · 04/03/2007 11:15

oh, am sorry to hear that, Saggar, didn't know. what type does she have, if you don't mind me asking and how was she diagnosed? they think my dad has ARVC. no-one else (that we know of) has symptoms of it - so far.

OP posts:
Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 04/03/2007 11:27

It's secondary DCM - caused by a structural heart defect. The defect and the two heart attacks she caused DCM. It's quite complex because her heart muscle went into 'hibernation' and sort of functioned at a very low level. She is massively improved now post surgery and with meds but some of the function isn't recoverable.

I've had a look at ARVC on the CMA website. You're worried this lightheadedness is a symptom I expect.

dinny · 04/03/2007 11:30

God, how terrifying for you all. How old is she?

yes, my dad realised he'd been having pre-syncope for years (with hindsight)

but have got a hrm and hr is always normal. thus far!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

She's 13 now . Diagnosed at 14 weeks after RSV put her into end stage heart failure. She's done so well considering her initial dire prognosis.

So what made you dad get checked out in the end?

dinny · 04/03/2007 11:59

wow, what an amazing girl she must be

two years ago my dad started being sick and couldn't understand why (he was always rushing around, had own business and was chairman of council, v stressed out etc. anyway, he was being sick every day, our dr at home thought it was ulcer but he happened to be on mainland and my mum made him go to dr there. she was v clued-up gp and did an ecg then called an ambulance as his hr was 240bpm.

he's had quite a few VTs since then, been flown away by air ambulance, had the paddles etc. atm medication is keeping him stable but he has had VTs even when on highest dose poss.

he thinks he will def have an ICD

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 04/03/2007 18:40

Crikey dinny he has had a lot going on! Someone on here has an ICD - macwoozy I think....maybe....

dinny · 04/03/2007 18:42

oh, really? can't remember if I knew that...

think he'll feel much more reassured with one, really - esp given where they live (small island)

I imagine it's a bit scary. I have an online friend on the IOM whose daughter has complex heart issues. She's forever flying backwards and forwards.

An ICD would give him some peace of mind.

How are you this evening dinny? Have you had a more peaceful day?

dinny · 04/03/2007 19:08

yeah, thanks - think I may actually have been hungover today as I drank half a bottle of wine last night as mil's birthday and I haven't drunk for ages!
