Is anyone a dentist on here. My new crown is horrible but I can't face the dentist going near it again

I had a large porcelain crown fitted on a lower molar at the end of January.
It feels slightly too big but my biggest problem is the sensitivity.
I can't eat or drink anything cold or very hot now.
The pain shoots up from my crown if I do.
There wasn't much tooth left to crown but I found the process of getting it done hideous.
I was so anxious.
I had to keep having more anaesthetic to numb the area because I could feel pain each time he started working on my tooth.

I really regret having the work done.
It was so expensive but I wish the dentist had taken my tooth out instead. I did ask him too but he said the tooth was still healthy so a crown was the best option.

I'm scared to go back but I can't eat on the side of my mouth where it is.

Oh dear that sounds awful . Is the first work the dentist has done for you or has he done other stuff that's been ok ? If the latter I would go back .

If not .... then ,obvious I know but you need to find someone you can trust .Whereabouts are you ? I know 2 I could recommend in SE London .

I really feel for you .You have to get this sorted .

He has done work before but I've never had a crown before.
I want to know what they can do but I feel sick at the thought of him prodding it.

I'm in East Anglia not London.

I'm not a dentist - perhaps one could comment -but I'm wondering if there was some technical reason why he had to keep adding to the pain relief ( or whatever it's called ) .I wonder why he couldn't give you sufficient to begin with .
It's awful to be having work done and to have your fears about it hurting realised .

I have a new dentist who is a wizz at injections .Numbs the site first and does it veeery slowly .Can't feel a thing and so far I've never had to ask for a top up .

But you shouldn't still have pain - I think you should go back to him again and that he should fix it without charging you again and this time giving you enough pain relief .

I do hope one of the dentists who post on here comes along .

I'm not a dentist, but work in a dental practice. Please go back, it may be as simple as the bite not being right. This would be easy to sort out. Explain to your dentist how anxious you are, he will understand. Leaving it doesn't seem an option, so be brave - you survived the initial treatment, you can get through this ! Good luck.

I would go back - its so much work to have had done to be uncomfortable. They may just need to file it down a bit.
I have a crown (near the front of my mouth) that is unfortunately not the best option now as I didn't take care to have it checked when it felt uncomfortable, infection got in and weakened what tooth was left; only option now it to have it removed totally (which is not nice) and replaced with a dental implant; which is VERY VERY expensive. Pop back to your dentist - if they are a good one, they will help ease your nerves. I am terribly anxious of the dentist too, and mine actually suggested visiting my GP for anti-anxiety medication for before appointments when I knew work would be done. If you are very bad they can suggest a phobia clinic where you are very sedated before work is carried out; however some medicine from your doctor will be the first port of call; explain the situation.
I understand completely and empathise fully with the position you are in, but it will only be worse if you don't get it seen too.

Definitely go back. Especially as you think it is too big. It will be putting pressure on your tooth left beneath and causing the sensitivity and discomfort when you bite on it. Left unchecked you will really irritate the nerve and possibly get an abscess

If its too high it will cause a lot of pain and keep getting worse

The adjustment shouldn't be anything like as difficult for you

My tooth was broken for months before I felt brave enough to book the appointments for the crown.
I thought I could pat my self on my back for getting it over and done with. 😕
