Married to DH for 12 years, I may add I trust him completely.

Have been poorly the last few weeks and therefore immunity very low.
This week I've come out with what I thought was thrush. Took pessary but it did nothing.
The following day the pain was bad. I thought uti. Got in at doctors who said they suspected genital herpes. Sent me to gum clinic who confirmed diagnosis.

This is potentially the worst pain I've ever had.
My entire vulva is covered in weeping sores and blisters, they're spreading up my bum crack :-(
I can't sit, walk, lie. I am in tears all the time. I'm off work as it's so bad.
Weeing is just unbearable. The pain is so bad it's actually feel like I'm going to be sick. It burns the entire way down. I've tried weeing in the bath and the shower, nothing helps.
This is day 4 now, I'm meant to be going on holiday in a week.
I just can't see how I will go if I still feel like this.
The doctor gave me instillagel to put on the affected sores but all it does is burn. It's literally like someone is holding a naked flame to my bits.
I'm also on aciclovir 400mg 3 times a day. I started it yesterday but I'd say the pain is worse today

He said I have a very bad case so I'm also on tramadol which isn't even touching the pain.
Please can anyone offer me some help and advice?
I'm having regular salt water baths and have been in loose jamas all day with no underwear on.
I don't know how long to expect to feel like this
I've missed so much time off work due to my other illness I am mortified to have now had this come out. And i obviously can't tell them why I'm now off again.
I thought I'd be back in work Monday but how I feel now I just can't imagine it

If you don't want to respond on here feel free to pm me.
I just don't know what to expect time frame wise!
And is it normal for this to have lay dormant for 12 odd years?
Neither me or dh have ever had any other symptoms not even a coldsore in our lives

Thanks

The repeat outbreaks are not meant to be so bad so try not to worry too much. Glad you are starting to feel better.

RandomMess · 07/03/2017 22:58

Flowers so glad things are starting to improve.

Toocleverformyowngood · 07/03/2017 23:07

Bottomly, I get cold sores all the time, I have however spoken to a doctor who said the chances of getting it down there are slimmer for us because we already have the virus meaning our body will now have the antibodies to stop it from going anywhere other than our face.

chatnanny · 07/03/2017 23:10

My DD had it diagnosed at Uni when she was maybe 19, I was so worried for her. But 10 years on so far and it has never broken out since. She is in a long term relationship and bf is aware. I'm sure it was lying dormant in you. How lovely to read about a solid trusting relationship!

SorrelSoup · 08/03/2017 05:18

I'm glad you've turned a corner. You do sound much brighter. I can't believe what you've had to go through Flowers

WhyTheHeckMe · 09/03/2017 20:47

It's now been a week since my first post, been back to clinic today. It's cleared up amazingly and the doctor said as it was a very bad case he wants me to continue with the aciclovir for another week to stop it returning
He has also given me another 2 weeks worth of Meds in case it comes back at any point which I was thrilled about! So we can go away after all this weekend Grin

If anyone comes across this thread in the future I can assure you it does get better and it's a rapid recovery once the meds kick in :)

Brilliant. Glad you are recovering well.
Should have paid attention last week - I discovered today that I only had 2 tablets left and missed my GPs cut off for a repeat this week so am just going to have to put up with current outbreak. It's only mild though.

WhyTheHeckMe · 10/03/2017 19:07

Oh no punt get well soon!

Thanks. This may actually reassure you for the future. I took the two tablets I had yesterday and by today it is almost itch free and hasn't progressed from a little bit of puffiness.

SouthPole · 10/03/2017 21:06

God op, just read your thread you poor love.

No thoughts to offer, just best wishes and sympathy.

Glad you're on the mend.

Adarajames · 10/03/2017 21:25

Glad you're feeling so much better op. Worth getting some citricidal to take, antiseptic / antibacterial / anti viral supplement you can take, would be helpful preventative

My sympathy is with you, the first outbreak can be utterly horrendous. I had mine 10 yrs ago before a big trip to Australia... It was very bad in the sense that I was extremely ill, like I had flu, my symptoms included an intense burning sensation in my buttocks, a feeling like I had sat in a bowl of acid, very slow restricted urinating, but only about 3/4 actual sores although they were very nasty ones, I couldn't walk and spent a week on my sofa. I'd say the whole episode took about 10/11 days but it took the doctors a week to prescribe the acyclovir because the burning/acid feeling started several days before I got the sores so they didn't know what it was. Once I started on the acyclovir, it took about 5/6 days to clear. Another weird thing is that for weeks afterwards I'd get a strange deep pain whenever I had an orgasm! Needless to say I was pretty relieved when that stopped...

Make sure you take some acyclovir away with you as it's not uncommon to get another outbreak soon after the first - I did in Australia but it was nothing in comparison to the first, perfectly manageable & disappeared within 3 days on the meds.

I was really unlucky and got frequent attacks (like every 2/3 weeks) after my first but I was put on acyclovir daily and rarely had an outbreak provided I was taking it properly. These days I'm not usually on it & I can go many months, maybe even a year, without an attack.

The main trigger for me is alcohol. Whenever I stop drinking I don't get attacks at all. However it's not a sacrifice I'm usually prepared to make!

Don’t know if anyone can help

I’ve recently been diagnosed with herpes.
And I really dunno what to do :(, I’m in so much pain.. they’ve given me antiviral medicine and I’ve been taking them since Thursday, and it’s not Saturday. When am I supposed to feel a difference?
Could anyone offer me any advice please?

Pikapikachooo · 17/09/2019 22:22

Hi there
I was searching and found this
Old thread

I also got diagnosed with herpes this summer . Also dormant for many many years

All you can do is take the drugs and wait it out . I think I might have a new case myself . In no way as harrowing as what OP has but something isn’t right so have to work out some excuse for work and pop back
To GUM
Tomorrow

KelmZ hope all better now ?

Omg I cannot explain how happy I am to see this post. Earlier today I was diagnosed with genital herpes. Safe to say I was distraught. But the pain you have described is literally what I’m going through down to a T!
I have been using instillagel to try and help ease the pain before going for a wee but my god I swear the pain of putting it on is equally as painful as trying to have a wee!! Makes me scream it’s so bad!
The sores down there are horrendous and spreading around the back too! I have been with my fiancé for 4 years and we have an 11 month old wee boy. It started 2 weeks ago thinking it was thrush but no treatment helped and gradually turned into this horrendous virus of sores and discharge and pain. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I have not cheated and would be surprised if my partner had and due to having several sexual partners when I was younger I wouldn’t be surprised if it was dormant in my system for a long time until now. However I told my partner the situation and he can be .... not very understanding should we say, and he’s accusing me of cheating 👍🏼 It’s such a stigmatised virus and not even officially classed as an std the doctor was saying. I’m hurt that my partner has just jumped to that conclusion of me, it makes me feel so dirty. I just hope In the future people don’t look at it like a disease because it’s certainly going to take me a while to get used to the fact I’m going to have this virus for life. If anyone has any tips on how to deal with it then please help.
Also how long did your symptoms last in the end? I’m on day 3 or 4 of severe soreness and don’t know how much longer I can bare it. Doctor has posted me anti viral tablets which I should receive in post tomorrow- they’re closed because of corona! X

Superhero20 · 07/12/2020 17:37

Hi @Lucy1909
Just wondering what sort of symptoms you had? Was it internal or external?
Hope you’re doing ok
