Have posted before about 4 yr old Ds having a rash which according to the gp is an allergic rash...urticaria.

On his body the rash does seem to to be slightly better but he's got up this morning and his face looks awful, big dark red blothces.

I have read that the rash can last for a few weeks . He just looked in the mirror and is so upset.

We have to go out in a bit and I feel like sticking a sign saying 'I am NOT contagious' on him

what has he eaten? and what are they doing to find out what he is allergic to?

give him some piriton.

zippitippitoes · 03/03/2007 10:00

have you tried antihistamine?

misdee · 03/03/2007 10:01

oh and dd1 used to suffer badly with this, she has a low daily dose of anti histimine. she reacts to food colourings, which dont cause the rash but send her IgE haywire so she reacts to 'safe' things.

i have had people pull their children away hissing 'you dont know what she's got'

He has had some Piriton, he is having 2.5mls four times a day but tbh it doesn't really seem to do anything other than stop him scratching, although thats said, he doesn't really complain of it itching anyway anymore.

The gp said it is most likely to be an allergic reaction to a virus especially as it keeps coming and going on different parts of his body. Unfortunatly on his face it seems to be pretty constant.

He has had it for a week now.

Poor dd

It does look very bad I have to admitt. The rash is definatly worst on his face today. On his arms it is alot paler and white in the middle of the blothces.

poor luv.

i now carry a bottle of anti histimine with me most of the time, as soon as one blotch appears i give her a little extra (under docs orders) if we forget to give it, then she just turns into a giant blotch. its calmed down since we have removed tartrazine and other colourings. she had a hideous reaction last yuear to an ice lolly, lips swelling rapid breathing etc. then a few weeks later come out in urticia all over her legs in the middle of the night screaming.

NuttyMuffins · 03/03/2007 10:09

Does the antihistamine generally stop her blothces getting any worse Misdee ?? It doesn't seem to be helping Ds's rash at all.

it does now, as she has been taking it for a few years now. but if she was covered as your ds is, it did take longer to clear. his body is still fighting the virus i guess. a cold flannel also helps with taking it down a bit.

NuttyMuffins · 03/03/2007 10:12

Ahh right ok

I think I will persevere with the Piriton and see how go in the next few days and perhaps go back to gp again if it's no better by the end of the week.

Ta Misdee.
