Does ANYTHING work for heartburn?

I've had persistent heartburn for weeks now and I'm fed up. Nothing works...gaviscon, nexium, ranitidine, rennies, I've tried everything. No particular food sets it off, it's there even before I have breakfast. It's actually better when I'm eating.

I've got a gp appointment in a couple of weeks time but I know she'll prescribe lanzaprazole which I had a few years ago and did nothing. When I last had this persistent heartburn it went on for months and I couldn't find anything to touch it. I had an endoscopy which revealed nothing to worry about and the heartburn eventually settled down. I can't bear being like this for months like I was last time...is there anything else out there I can try?

I have just been prescribed omeprazole, I have had intermittent problems with heartburn for years but this time my oesophagus felt sore all day so time for medical assistance. My problems went away when I low carbed to lose half a stone last year but returned after binging on left over haribos at Halloween 😞, sugar rather than fat is definitely the issue for me.

I think you're a bit daft to go down the route of regular medications rather than looking at your diet.first.....for me, too much sugar or rich foods majorly sets off my heartburn. It goes if I cut them down.

Omeprazole 20 mg twice a day is the only thing that worked for me

Omeprazole is fab. DH has it on prescription so I just nick his if I have heartburn. I actually could get my own prescription (it's on a repeat for me) but he has a prepaid prescription thingy where you pay monthly so works out cheaper.

God I could have written your post! I totally sympathise! Mine flares up/down for months, I've tried omeprazole and lansoprazole and neither helped fully.
The latest trip to the GP she prescribed 150mg ranitidine 3 x day and it's eased it...to the point of I can still eat but it's seriously doing my head in. I have another appointment in two weeks and am considering asking for intolerance testing or checking my gallbladder?! I'm trying anything now!!! Good luck op
