red and raw leg folds in a baby!

My dd2 is 4 months old and you might call her chubby!
Her leg folds at the knees have started to get red, raw, itchy and a bit damp. Anyone know any remedies to make her more comfortable? The pharmacist did the usual 'its a baby go to the Dr', and can't get an appointment with the Dr until tomorrow. Please help an uncomfortable chubster

Just make sure you watch it morning and night to make sure it stays clean.
I would put sudocream on it until it looks better then perhaps vaseline in case it goes dry. As Sudocreme heals but also dries the skin out a bit.
My dd2 get it on her neck and sometimes under her arms.

It's probably ezcema
Make sure you dry the folds well after bathing
Doc should give you some cream etc

thank you
will go to the chemists and get some asap. Is it best to air the skin or keep it covered to stop her itching?

As much air as possible, although it's not easy in this weather!

Just saw your message TheBlonde - she did have baby ezcema so we already have aqueous creme and low dose hydrocortisone - would those work?

Just went back into the sitting room to find a completely white baby! Dd1 had seem she was itchy and covered her in baby powder! I do think the Usborn First experiences book is to blame why in 'the new baby' one of the children covers the cat in baby powder!!!

Just to repeat what someone else has said - Make sure area is dried well after bathing and then I would smear with vaseline. Always cleared this up for my babies.
Oh and just a warning - be very careful with talcum powder, babies have choked and died when the lid has come off and they have inhaled the powder.

mamado · 01/03/2007 13:56

thanks for the warning, I didn't know it was so dangerous - we do usually keep it out of the way [doesn't have much use anyway] but dd1 was 'helping' and acting out a scene from a book! Might just throw it away now

mamado - if you have HC still stick some on it - it should clear it up

Mamado, I took DS2 to the docs for a similar thing, and he now has Oilatum in his bath and gets smothered in cream - Aveeno I think, got both on prescription so they're free.
