Does anyone have a Valoplast (flexible) partial denture??

I got mine yesterday (a missing upper molar) and while it seemed to fit perfectly at the dentist, it got more and more sore as the day went on. Today I wore it for about 4 hours and had to take it out. I appreciate that my gum isn't used to having anything attached to it, but I expected it to be more comfy considering it is very expensive!

Anyone any experience? Or tips for breaking it in?

And to add that speaking to a friend yesterday about a one tooth denture she has ( no idea if same type as yours ) she said dentist had told her to soften in hot water before putting it in place ...

Tho presumably it would harden as it cooled down ? Tho maybe it helps it mould to a good fit ?

I'll give that a try.. it's worth a go (I suspect it must be the same material as traditional ones don't soften!) I am a bit disappointed so far.. I couldn't have a bridge as my teeth either side aren't big enough, and now the partial is an endurance test.

I think you should go back to dentist ,maybe it needs some subtle adjustment ?

It could need adjusting but also, a new denture is a little like new shoes so some perseverance may be required. Go back to your dentist to check.

I am getting a flexible partial denture fitted, I have tried acrylic ones but couldn’t get on with them, so fingers crossed the flexible denture will be good, does anyone have a flexible denture and would like to share with me what it’s like please

I do, it replaces a lower first molar and a pre-molar on the right. I had actually had the gap for years with no issues (no-one can see it) and just asked my dentist about a poster in the waiting room at a checkup. Mine is great. I needed a little shaved off the bottom because it rubbed and gave me an ulcer, but the adjustment took seconds and I was warned to expect I would most likely need it. The clasps are completely invisible, I can chew on it perfectly, and while initially I was a bit worried I was lisping, my DP assured me I wasn’t. (I read to the cat the first night I got it to try to get used to talking!)

I clean it with soap and water, and store it in one of those little pots you get in Boots for decanting products into for travel, in plain water. Once a week I add a drop of bleach and leave it in that for an hour, then rinse the denture and pot thoroughly. I was told not to buy a denture cleaning liquid or whatever they are. It’s very secure and doesn’t need a fixing gel (?) but at one point I felt like it was going to flip when I ate something hard, and at my next checkup I mentioned it to my dentist - she put it in some hot water and kind of squeezed it with her fingers to push the back clasp a bit tighter. (I wouldn’t have gone in for an appointment if I hadn’t had a checkup booked, it was just a weird sensation.)

I find things like biscuits can sometimes collect between the base of it and my cheek after chewing, and usually give it a rinse under the tap after lunch at work. Mine is the size of the top joint of my thumb-ish, so very discrete even if someone comes into the loo. No-one other than my partner who I live with knows I have it, but as I said, the space was never visible unless I yawned REALLY widely.

I paid about £300 for it if that’s relevant. Any other questions, please ask!
