Tooth extraction: how much pain is normal?

Hi, I had a bottom molar removed yesterday and I'm in a lot of pain. I'm taking 400mg ibuprofen every 8 hours, and 1 Co-codamol every 6 hours. The pain's constant. I do expect to have pain but am extra anxious as last time I had an extraction I got dry socket. I'm just wondering what to expect; can anyone please advise?

Oh Sorrel I've only just seen this! I have had dry socket with every tooth I have had extracted (four). It's hideous and as soon as I started reading I knew you had it! If it great bad over the weekend you will need to go and get it repacked, your dentist is obliged to have an on call number if you need it. Other Than that, anti inflams, codiene and rest, it's horrible horrible pain x

Thanks Sarah! Living in fear of pain but not actual pain yet. She said 99% don't need repacking, but I know mine did last time. They have call out for private patients but nhs have to ring 111.

OP, Nytol will for sure get you through the next few nights with sleep. So glad you got a second opinion!

Omg, just had a horrendous reaction to the codeine. It's like I've taken a horse tranquilliser. I thought my throat was constricting and my tongue feels swollen; it's actually just a completely dry mouth to the point that I can hardly swallow without water. I rang 111 I was so frightened. They're happy that I can breathe and it will wear off. I'm typing this to distract myself as it's freaking me out feeling like this. It's been 2.5 hours so hoping it will subside soon.

That sounds horrible! Hope it eases soon. Maybe turn the shower on hot and sit in there to help breathe
