Pilonidal Cyst?

zukiecat · 06/02/2017 23:52

Has anyone ever had one of these?

Up until a day or two I'd never heard of pilonidal cysts but I have developed a tender very red rather hard feeling lump at the very top of my behind, it's not too painful, just a bit tender to the touch, poking about at it makes it sting a bit

Very hard to see it properly, and DDs are away at the moment, so no-one here to look or to take a photo

The only thing that comes up when I google is a pilonidal cyst, which as I say I'd never heard of, but the pictures and stories are horrific!

I know it's hard without photos, but could it just be a big spot? I've never had a boil, but maybe that? It seems a bit daft and a waste of a doctor's time to go and see about it, but should I anyway or maybe with the nurse?

My ds had one, took ages to get a doctor to do something, the we were sent to hospital op flippin fast. And from there we were giving a date for a operation on the day ward. I was told that the cyst usually burrows downwards, but my ds has burrowed horizontal. It was just above his bum crack, so they had to open it all out. It was so wide that they couldn't sew the edges together. It had to be packed and dressed. The nurse came out and did this for him. The surgery was in early May and it hadn't heeled when he went to uni in September.

It still looks red and angry user but it doesn't feel as big, still quite tender though, and I had a bit of a poke about at it and it started stinging like mad

I don't think mine is anywhere near as bad as that!

He's fine now thanks zuki, he was a bit embarrassed that once it started to heal, his dear old mum took over dressing it.

Just a wee update for anyone still interested

I saw the nurse this morning and she put me on a course of antibiotics, just said to see how it goes and to come back if I have any problems with it

Glad to hear that zukie, hopefully that sorts it out. (I've namechanged but I was user... who got her pus squeezed out by the doc - lovely mental image again for you)

Ha Ha Larainette

I did wonder if she would have a squeeze at it, I was hoping not as it is very tender to the touch

Hopefully the antibiotics will work, but she said don't be surprised if it bursts, then fills up again

She told me to keep the area very clean, but I do that anyway with regular baths and showers
