Costochondritis and bras

Under wired bras have aggravated this so I thought I would buy a sports bra. I tried every style they had in their new range in M&S. None of them fitted me. The ones they have now with the Zips are the front I couldn't even get on. The sizing seemed really weird as my normal 36DD went nowhere near me. I tried a 40DD and got it zipped up but it was so uncomfortable. I tried a crop top in H&M but they all seem not deep enough and sorry for the TMI but my boobs almost hang out the bottom. Maybe I'm just really odd shaped but I don't think so. I usually wear a minimiser from M&S but will need to give these a rest as the pain is very severe at the moment. As I'm a DD girl I still need support. Any ideas of any good soft bras, crop tops or wearable sports bras ??. I'm very disappointed with M&S. I don't want my boobs to sag (even more).

Thank you so much for the link. I thin there is a definite connection between getting this and having to support big boobs. At the moment just the thought of putting a bra on fills me with dread. Have you had much advice from your GP on anything that is good to deal with it. Mine comes and goes in severity but is always there and my bras just always feel so uncomfortable. I've been measured a million times so I know it's not the wrong size. I can't take anti-inflammatories due to acid reflux so was curious to know what advice or help you might have been given. My GP more or less said you need to live with it (helpful!!). Thanks again.

Where have you been measured as M&S are notorious for adding extra inches to the back size and then you end up with a cup that is too small?

I've been measured in places other than M&S and I always come out the same size. Saying that I was in Rigby & Pellar with my friend and the sales assistant there predicted without measuring me that I was a 32G which I found hard to believe. I didn't try on any bras as they started at around £100 so I don't know if she was right. Every single bra that I buy always feels too tight on my ribs. I also come out the same if I measure myself. I tried going up to a 38 but that makes the underwiring sit lower on my ribs which is very uncomfortable. I feel like I'm on some kind of life long mission to find a bra that is bearable. I have spent a fortune on bras over the years and have a drawer full now that I don't want to wear. I wouldn't even say that I am that big at a 36 DD. However I do have quite small shoulders and chest area so maybe it is just weight of them on my sized frame. I have just ordered two of the pull on bras from Avon as recommended so hoping they will fit me ok.

You would feel the smaller back bras as being tight as the cup was too small and would 'steal' fabric from the back. If they said you were more like a G cup then that suggests to me that you are wearing the wrong size and that's why they are not comfortable. Could you use the measuring guide I posted? What dress size are you? ( I am a 20/22 on top and wear a 36GG bra)

Remember you don't add extra inches to your back size when measuring so the figure you measure is the figure you use (some places add 4/5 inches and that gives the wrong size)

Hi I have just been reading the blog which talks a lot of sense and I've never measured myself like this leading me to feel that I'm and I'm thinking I'm probably most definitely in the wrong cup size ...I'm a size 12. If I buy a shirt I have to get a size 14 so I don't get that gapping thing with the buttons and then I take the sides in. I've never tried a G cup ...I'm wishing I had tried one in in R&P now!!

How is everyone doing with this?? I have been diagnosed with it. More in my chest like an earlier poster rather than ribs. Comes and goes but when it's there, it's instantaneous and scares me

I have same arthritis in breastbone and any bras I have tried just don't give any ease .
Tried tank top style with pads soft under band .
I'm still struggling .
M&S nothing suitable .
My bust size is 34 E.
Anyone know where to find right ones .

Hi have suffered with left sided rib pain for a few weeks, and I have just worked out it is due to my bra that was to tight around the band, this has caused costochondritis, I find it very painful at he moment and am unable to wear a bra at all, I have since had a proper bra measurement and have invested in a right sized bra, just waiting for the pain to subside x
