Extremely dry feet keep cracking and bleeding

Just that really. Anyone know what it might caused by? Feet aren't dry to touch just lots of dead skin and one fungal nail infection that I've been treating. Can barely walk at times the cuts are so painful. Tia

That sounds really painful. I have very dry feet, not to the extent of bleeding though.
The regular NHS chiropodists I see have only ever recommend lathering on over the counter moisturising creams which have proved useless to me - I could open a shop with the amount of moisturisers I've tried and discarded - inc specialised foot cream.
I'd try the GP if I was you, you need to prevent your feet getting infected and get to the root cause of why they're so dry - mine is caused by hypothyroidism.

Flexitol creme is amazing. Have you tried it?

My DM just discovered some amazing cream for her hands which would probably work on feet too. It's called O'Keefe's Working Hands cream. She has had dry/cracked skin on her hands for years but after a week or so of applying this at night they are so much better!

My feet were like that years ago and with very itchy blisters which I had to pop. They were a right state. I gave up wheat and now my feet are normal, soft.

Thanks all - I'll give all these suggestions a go. Not tried any of them. I'd wondered about hypothyroid as I'm struggling to loose weight - def will ask gp for blood test I think.

What are you treating your fungal nail with?
I had fungal toenails. Also really dry cracked skin on my feet... I could have sanded woodwork with them! I tried every foot balm and lotion going. Summer was a nightmare as my feet would get hot and itchy, but I couldn't bear anyone seeing them so never wore sandals.
Doctor gave me a prescription for terbinafine for my nails, and it also sorted out the skin problem, so I suspect it was fungal too.

I think terbafine - it's a nail varnish type thing. I had wondered if fungal too so I sprayed daktarin foot spray on them for a few days but it just made it worse!

Flexitol, and don't be tempted by the Boots own brand - cheaper but much less pleasant to use.

The terbinafine is an oral tablet. I had horrendous toe nails, one grew pointing upwards like a huge snail! . My doctor also advised me to soak them in a strong solution of Epsom salts (I used to dremel them first so the salts could soak in better) so maybe that helped my dry skin too.

Oh that's def not what I'm using then - mine is only a nail varnish and doesn't seem to do a lot.
I'm breastfeeding so don't think I can take the oral tablets. Lots of recommendations for flexitol - will try that first!

I think the fungal thing is separate from the cracked heels. You're right about terbinafine tablets, they work but they are quite toxic and you have to take them for months, during which you will feel queasy.

I didn't feel queasy at all. So pleased I took it, no longer ashamed to bare my feet!

Foot care becomes vital as you age! You need to soak your feet in the bath, scrub them with a friction mitt and a non-drying bath gel, remove dead skin and moisturize every day.

Scholl heel cream is fabulous for cracked heels. Use that and file them regularly. They'll recover quickly.

I think you might have a fungal foot problem. Try daktocort cream.

I'm a Podiatrist and it definitely sounds like a fungal skin infection on your heels. Try an anti fungal cream and use the spray in your shoes, the cream works better on the skin.

Thanks all. I'm trying flexitol and also I'll get some more antifungal cream tomorrow. It wouldn't surprise me if it's all fungal I'm so run down. Have an app to ask the GP about my thyroid as well.
