H passes out after certain foods

This is ridiculous.

For years he's suffered intense bloating and loud belching after certain foods like bread and pasta. And capers. Once he ate capers in a salad and his nose swelled up so much it split. We've also discovered there are capers in tartare sauce.

So he's had a lot of discomfort. It took a while for him to link his misery to these foods. White potatoes also do it.

Except now it's not just bloating and belching. He's unconscious. I cannot wake him up for at least 30 minutes. And when he does wake, he feels horrendous like he's in a fog after a violent attack or something.

He had tartare sauce with fish and chips at the zoo with ds3 last week and knew that he simply had to get home asap in order that his body could go into lockdown and he could get into his deep sleep.

He loves corn. We didn't think there was s problem with corn. He had some on Friday and the belching started. Then today he had three roast potatoes. I told him not to. And he's stretched out on the sofa, in an emergency sleep as he calls it. It's deep and he can't be woken until at least thirty minutes into it.

I'm so worried. He's agreed to go to the doctor again. Previously they've just dismissed him as being allergic but haven't tested him for what exactly.

It seems to me that we are slowly discovering he is allergic to more and more foods and his reaction is extreme in that he feels the need to conk out.

He's also constantly tired. He will happily sleep twelve hours a night and then nap in the afternoon.

How can we make sure the GP doesn't dismiss this health issue? He's been dismissed a lot.

The falling asleep thing sounds like diabetes
The belching/bloated sounds like ibs
Several coeliacs here, they get diahorrea (sp?) and gassy

The swelling of the nose and breathing difficulties sound like a severe allergic reaction.

Wolpertinger · 15/01/2017 09:24

He needs to stop eating those foods now and see a doctor. Urgently.

MichaelSheensNextDW · 15/01/2017 16:47

His breathing is affected and you cannot wake him up? Why would you not call an ambulance if that is the case?

Allalonenow · 15/01/2017 17:01

Post prandial hypoglycemia perhaps? He needs to see a GP ASAP.

FagAshMIL · 26/01/2017 18:30

did you ever get to the bottom of this OP?

ImperialBlether · 26/01/2017 18:34

But OP, when his nose split afterwards, why on earth didn't you go to the hospital then? And you say it affects his breathing? He needs an urgent investigation.

winkywinkola · 27/01/2017 13:28

He did go to the urgent care when his nose split and they gave him anti histamines to calm his breathing.

So he's been to the GP and then an ENT specialist who says he has a deviated septum like he's never seen before. This means that even the smallest inflammation of the nasal membranes will lead to great difficulty in breathing.

He was given a different kind of spray to use. He says it helps a lot. Surgery may be necessary if the spray stops working.

Then he went to another specialist for blood tests. They have found no evidence of allergies which amazed me when his reaction to certain foods is almost instantaneous.

But he is also to see a dietitian to discuss how to go forward with his foods. Because if he's allergic to peppers apparently it's likely he will be allergic to tomatoes. It's those links between food families we don't know about. And need to learn about.

But they didn't test him for allergies to peppers?

He sounds incredibly allergic to many things - how come the hospital is not interested in this?
