Anyone else got hyperthyroidism?

I was diagnosed with it last week. Started taking the medicine for it, had all the symptoms, racing heart, shaking, headaches etc. But this week my legs are so weak am really struggling. Am usually very active and am struggling to walk upstairs.
Is this normal? It's really scaring me tbh

This was me 3 years ago OP. The meds do kick in reasonably quickly and make you feel better. The only symptom I didn't have was the racing heart, I was pretty lucky with that.

I have Graves disease too. I have been off meds for 5 months now and am still in remission which seems like a minor miracle to me, as it took a long time to get my thyroid fully under control with the meds. My tsh was also still detectable when I was taken off the carbimazole.

Op it took me probably 2-3 months to going to classes, I was doing less demanding classes than spin though at first. Then spin wearing a HRM

My t4 & t3 were very high and I had a resting HR if 150, I was admitted straight to hospital from GP surgery and later was told I was so close to going into a coma.

Looking back I had had the symptoms for 3-4 years but as they were gradual I had got used to some and hadn't put it all together.

I was eating so much as so hungry consistently, yet not putting on weight. May sound wonderful but it was a bloody nightmare.

My T4 became in range in April and about 2 months after that i felt more like 'myself' and physically stronger (am also cyclist and runner!) Even though my T4 is in range it's at the high end, so I'm still thin, hungry and a bit mad!

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism about 14 years ago it was picked up on blood tests when having problems trying to conceive and then stay pregnant. I have been taking levothyroxine ever since. My dose is 150mg and dose has been stable for a good few years.
I have put loads of weight on feel tired a lot and hungry.
Also does anyone else feel really rubbish around or just before I eat lunch time very sweaty, shaky, weak, panicky etc. I don't know if it's due to this or something else? I also have very itchy skin.
I keep asking if I am on the right dose and keep being told I am.

ivykaty44 · 18/01/2017 21:06

Bright eyes are you sure you were hyper as they wouldnt give you 150 mg more thyroxine as it would kill you?

If you have to much thyroxine then you are hyper and they give you anti thyroxine drugs like carbimizole

If you are hypo they give you thyroxine as you don't have enough

Brighteyes27 · 18/01/2017 21:12

Sorry no I am underactive hypothyroid I mis- read it. Sorry I am delerious with tooth ache and painkillers tonight.

psychosexual · 18/01/2017 21:14

Sometimes they block and replace so give thyroxine alongside the carbimazole or whatever the other one is called PTU

youcantgoback · 18/01/2017 22:08

Brighteyes you might need to get a print of your results. I was told I was fine but found my FT4 and FT3 were bottom of range. I asked for a trial of a higher dose and found that helped. When medicated for underactive hypothyroidism you also need to aim for a TSH of 1 or lower. Your Dr needs to listen to your symptoms not sign you off as 'normal range'!

I have just shocked myself. Got on the scales and have lost 8lbs in a week. I do feel a lot better so shouldn't the weight loss be stopping? Am eating like a pig. Under normal circumstances I would be celebrating but not at the moment.

It will take around 2 months to start to change, so don't worry.

A lot of the weight will unfortunately be muscle, but you will be able to do resistance training further down the line to rebuild the muscle loss

psychosexual · 21/01/2017 13:51

It does take ages, there is a lag of at least two months.

I lost muscle and even some bone density both of which I was completely hysterical about 😳. A stone of pure fat arrived quickly, in about a month, then melted away again. People on here were great for reassurance. Flowers

iwanttoridemybicycle · 21/01/2017 18:52

Oh god, am not good at coping with this. Just want to be better to ski end of Feb. The consultant said I would be fine, don't get why he would tell me that if I'm not going to be. Sorry I need to get a grip and stop moaning.

That's four or five weeks away, lots can improve by then Flowers sorry for saying it takes ages, it FELT like ages but I wasn't very compliant with the carbimazole and then radioiodine failed so that held me back. Trust the endocrinologist!

iwanttoridemybicycle · 21/01/2017 22:13

Thank you, I just want my strong legs back. Think if I started doing gentle weights exercise it would help? Won't do too much. And walking too?

OP posts:
ivykaty44 · 22/01/2017 13:20

You are anxious about the skiing - this anxiousness is due to being hyperthyroid....

W have on more week if Jan, and then a least 3 weeks if February till skiing. That's long enough to feel well enough for skiing.

Maybe you I'll do a little late than last year, but n hn is fine as n that our shouldn't feel that cold!

I had when you f
